Jockey with 63% strike-rate at Newmarket this year has 1 ride there on Friday

Upon looking through some statistics about Newmarket to see if I could spot anything of interest, I came across something intriguing. Research is key in this game and I think I have found a little nugget of information.

The more you educate yourself in this sport, the less luck you need in the long run. Just looking at the form book, for all it is useful, is not the way to approach the game, in my view.

I took a look at the best performing jockeys at the track for the past five years and it is William Buick who comes out on top with 62 winners from 275 rides, an impressive 23% strike-rate.

Who is this mysterious jockey?

However, I said I’d look at some more recent data to see if I could find anything better. To my surprise, ROSSA RYAN has a very impressive strike-rate at Newmarket this year.

He has only had 8 rides at the track this year but he has won on 5 of them, resulting in an unbelievable 63-per-cent strike-rate and a level stakes profit of £70.50.

So, the next step was to go and see if Rossa had any rides at Newmarket this week and to my surprise, he only has one on Friday – Setarhe running in the 2.25pm.

A closer look at Setarhe

As things stand, Rossa’s only ride on Friday at Newmarket is Setarhe. This is a two-year-old filly trained by Roger Varian running in the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes.

Bred by Footstepsinthesand, this girl finished last of the 14 runners in the Group 2 Lowther behind Miss Amulet at York when last seen. That was a shocking effort but this represents a drop in class.

Her only victory came on debut on good to firm but she ran a cracker on ground with cut in it when 2nd to Dandalla on her second start. That was in Group 2 company and there’s every chance she could improve for soft conditions Friday.

It would be silly to dismiss this girl’s chances given her trainer who is a master of his craft. I found this statistic to be very interesting anyways and I hope you find it useful too. Best of luck if you follow.
