Jockey who’s 6/12 at Fontwell has one ride there on Sunday and he’s 40-1!

Located close to the south coast, Fontwell hosts the action on Sunday along with Kelso, Uttoxeter, Navan and Punchestown on our horse racing tips. Ben Godfrey is still a five-pound claimer but he has already made quite an impression in his short riding career when he has been in action at Fontwell.

Godfrey has ridden twelve horses there so far, winning on six of them for a level stakes profit of +£9.95. Add a pair of second place finishes to that and it’s clear that Godfrey has found the knack for the track. He heads to Fontwell for just a single mount on Sunday, a huge outsider currently priced at 40/1!

Shanroe Smooch is the horse in question for trainer Richenda Ford. He is yet to get the job done under rules but he was a point winner back in 2018. That race has worked out well enough, the second, third and fifth all winners under rules while the fourth is a triple scorer in the pointing sphere.

It was not until last season, however, that he tried three miles under rules, seventeen lengths behind Volcano on that occasion. That’s another race that has seen winners come from it, the winner himself now more than two stone higher.

Things have not gone so well since for all that he took a tiny step back in the right direction at Chepstow last time. Nibbled at late from 16/1 into 12’s, it will be interesting to see if the quirky figure of eight track here, coupled with Godfrey can finally make the breakthrough.
