Huge gamble in progress at Stratford as runner backed from 66-1 into 14-1

Stratford Racecourse

Today’s racing comes from five venues, as we end the week on a high. Fairyhouse, Salisbury, Sligo, Stratford and Perth all host action and we’ll have horse racing tips from all five meetings.

While looking through the cards this morning, a big gamble has occurred overnight on a runner at Stratford. Opening up as big as 66-1, he’s now down to a price of 16-1 and the money seems to be continuing. You can find all the details below about this fascinating runner.

On paper, you’d struggle to give a chance to the Paddy Butler trained Jumping Jack. He’s failed to place in eleven starts since joining this yard from Chris Gordon, but there has been minor promise along the way.

His best effort for this stable came at Plumpton in November, where he finished a close fourth off a mark of 102. He races off just 85 today, which is a massive seventeen pounds lower.

He’s evidently well-treated and perhaps a return to better ground will help him today. Both his turf wins have come on “Good to Firm” ground, so he clearly likes it when he can bounce off the surface.

He’ll also need a strong pace to chase, as evidenced by his run at Fontwell two starts ago. Pushed along and outpaced on the home turn, he rallied after two-out without managing to muster a challenge. This race should be run at decent clip, given the size of the field, and that will suit him down to the ground.

Just like at Fontwell, he also retains the services of a promising seven-pound claimer and that’s another positive to his chances.  On paper, beyond the favourite, this isn’t a strong contest and not many can boast of any solid recent form. With that in mind, he certainly has strong each-way claims.
