Horse 4-4 over fences at Killarney bids for Grade 3 glory

Killarney Racecourse

The week kicks off in style on Monday, with seven meetings giving us plenty to look forward too. Ffos Las, Catterick, Lingfield, Windsor, Killarney and Southwell are the hosts and we’ll bring you horse racing tips from them all.

While looking through Monday’s racing, we’ve found a fascinating statistic at Killarney. There’s a horse running who is a perfect 4/4 over fences at Killarney, including a pair of Grade 3 victories. He looks to remain undefeated on Monday and you can find all the of the details below.

6.40 Killarney – An Riocht Chase (Grade 3)

The horse in question is Peter Fahey’s PEREGRINE RUN, who is yet to taste defeat over Killarney’s fences. Granted, he has been defeated on the flat here, but those efforts are best ignored given that he’s run just five times on the level in his entire career.

In the National Hunt sphere, he’s run six times at the venue, with form figures of 21111. That sole defeat was in a bumper, though he made amends over the same course and distance one month later. Focusing on his chasing victories, he’s a dual Grade 3 winner, winning this race for the last two years.

There’s no doubt that this year’s renewal is tougher, but he defeated a reopposing Robin Des Foret to win twelve months ago. He made his reappearance at Punchestown earlier this month, running a huge race in a handicap over hurdles. Sent off at 150/1, he looked a potential winner heading to the last, before a lack of fitness perhaps told.

Ultimately, that run was just a pipe-opener for this assignment, and it was a very pleasing one. Proving beyond doubt that he was just as good as he once was, he deserves his place in this line-up. Back over fences at his favourite track, with conditions ideal, he’s an obvious player under regular partner Kevin Sexton.
