1.45 Wolverhampton

Last seen over hurdles 189 days ago, Charle Brune certainly wouldn’t jump out to you as a winner in waiting, at least on paper. Backed in from highs of 40/1 into 16/1 this morning, there has been significant support for the Neil Mechie trained runner. The 9yo was last seen finishing third at Sedgefield over hurdles back in November, but his last run on the flat came in the summer of 2020 at Limerick when trained in Ireland by the Shanahan yard.

Charle Brune was a dual winner over hurdles back in Ireland, and he was only beaten just over a length into fourth off a mark of 63 at Fairyhouse back on the level two years ago. A repeat of that run would see him go very close here off of a basement mark of just 55, while rider Harry Russell will also take off a further 3lb in the saddle.

He has won fresh in the past which is a very important thing to factor in, as with all horses who are having their first run after a lengthy absence, fitness can be a concern. He is a fascinating runner.
