Fontwell Sponsored Meeting Review

Our fourth sponsored meeting of the year took place at Fontwell Park on Wednesday and I’m pleased to say that it was a rousing success! Below is a summary of the event and includes comments from trainers and followers who from the evening.

Results

We provided selections and full race analysis for every race on the card and came away with a pleasing three winners from seven. In the first race of the evening Howlongisafoot ran well for a long way and certainly lived up to the positive mention that Chris Gordon gave to our followers a day earlier. Sadly he was headed after a mistake at the last and couldn’t get back on terms but it was more than a respectable effort to finish second after nearly making all.

We got on the scoreboard in good style in the next two races starting with our 11/2 tip Royals And Rebels ran out a 7 length winner of the myracing.com For Fontwell Tips Handicap Chase having not travelled all that well early on but forged clear despite hanging right after the last.
After that came the Fontwell NAP. We were very keen on Don Lami once the final declarations had been made on Tuesday and that confidence was echoed by trainer Anthony Honeyball who told myracing.com “He’s won a point and a bumper on good ground so we’ve no worries on that score. He’s also won on the course and he’ll love the trip. I’m very confident tomorrow.” After his main market rival Benechenko was pulled out shortly before the race we were left with a field of three. That was cut down to two after the outsider of the trio Judge Judy came to grief when struggling to keep pace with the front pair. Cintex matched strides with our NAP for most of the race but after making a slight error three out the button was pushed on Don Lami and Aidan Coleman soon had the horse in front and ran out a very comfortable 12 lengths winner!

Our next winner came in the the shape of the Tim Vaughan trained Tara Mac. Despite the drift out to 5/1 before the race she was always going well under Alan Johns who pushed the mare to take it up three out and stayed on well enough to run out an easy five length winner!

Trainer Comments

Oliver Sherwood

After winning the Follow At myracingtips On Twitter Maiden Hurdle with Mr Dorrell Sage a delighted Oliver Sherwood told myracing.com that the wind op had seemed to do the trick and that they would look to put him away over the summer before going chasing next season. He did look a work in progress and a horse that would improve for a fence so he is very much one to keep an eye on.

Further into our conversation Oliver also mentioned a horse that is exciting him and the team for the summer jumps in the shape of Pontresina. “He’s very well bred and ran a race full of promise last time. We’re expecting more improvement from him next time.”
