Following the fillies at Newmarket yesterday with Iridessa causing a small shock at 14/1 in the Fillies’ Mile, it’s the turn of the colts today with the Dewhurst taking centre stage. It’s safe to say it looks to be a vintage renewal with 4 horses rated 110+ with 7 Group races won already by the field. The Zetland and Autumn Stakes precede the Group 1, they were won last year by Kew Gardens and Ghaiyyath, so keep an eye on this years winners! The ITV cameras are also at York for 3 races which includes the Listed Rockingham Stakes for two year olds. The coverage is completed by the 34-runner Cesarewitch Stakes at Newmarket run over 2m2f, where there is no hiding place and the winner has to see out every inch of the trip. Our ITV Racing tips can be found on the site now, as we tackle day 2 of the Future Champions’ Festival.
Aidan O’Brien has won 4 of the last 5 runnings of the Dewhurst which included the first 4 home in last seasons renewal. He has 3 contenders today with the leading hope being Anthony Van Dyck, who was runner up to the exciting Quorto in the National Stakes when last seen. That looks strong form and he has to be feared under in-form Donnacha O’Brien. But Too Darn Hot has been simply electric in his three starts to date, winning by an aggregate of 11 lengths on his first two outings before showing a sparkling turn of foot to win the Champagne Stakes. He looks every bit the real deal and could take a great deal of stopping.

Willie Mullins’ Stratum was impressive when winning the inaugural running of the JLT Cup at Newbury before being sent off a very skinny 3/1 favourite for the Ebor Handicap at York. He got absolutely no luck in running that day and last years winning owner will be hoping to make it two in a row in the Cesarewitch. But a 34-runner handicap poses plenty of opposition, not least Southern France, who was last seen finishing third in the St Leger behind Kew Gardens and Lah Ti Dar. That reads as very strong form and he bids to become just the second three year old to win the race this century. Ian Williams is in great form at present and he saddles three runners, with Speedo Boy being the most interesting. He’s unexposed as a stayer and the booking of William Buick in the saddle is eye-catching.

William Buick is far and away the leading jockey on the Rowley Mile this season with 14 wins (8 clear of the chasing pack) with a 25% strike rate. He’ll be hoping to build on that with Kadar (2.25pm), Sangarius (3.00pm), Speedo Boy (3.40pm), Fraser Island (4.15pm), Gorgeous Noora (4.50pm) and Beshaayir (5.25pm).
