Greyhound Syndicate – Update 1

They say time flies when you’re having fun! Well, it’s nearly 12 weeks now since we first put the greyhound syndicate idea out to the world and we have recently taken delivery of three pups from the Droopys Kennels in Ireland. They are settling in well at Kelva Kennels, where trainer, Jim Daly, is happy with their early progress. They are sensible pups which is always great to hear, that is always preferable to highly strung or babyish and they are set to have their first trials at Crayford in the next week or so. So without further ado, let’s introduce the three pups in the myracing greyhound syndicate.

Droopys Nuka

Born December 2015
Blue bitch by Rio Quattro out of Droopys Donna

Rio Quattro is best known for winning the 2015 English Derby for Danny Riordan. He blew away the favourite that night, Farloe Blitz, with exceptional middle pace to land the biggest win of Riordan’s career. His first litters were born in October 2015 so Nuka is a member of one of his early litters. He has had 7 pups race so far, 4 of them have won, including Glaise Star, an A3 winner at Sunderland in a swift 27.34 for a young pup. The three who are yet to win have all had just the one race each so it’s very early days in his stud career.

Donna ran just the twice in her career, knocked over on her first outing, she made no mistake on her second start, winning over 503m at Tralee in a tasty 30.16. She only turned 3rd but destroyed them down the back to score by 5 1/2 lengths. The 3rd that day came over to the UK to win Open races at Sheffield and Doncaster and it would have been interesting to see what she would have been capable of, if she had stayed racing but the paddocks was always going to be her calling.

Her litter brother Bower West was an open race winner at Sheffield and Nottingham while her half brother Bower Stone set a new Nottingham 480m track record in 2013. It’s no surprise then that Donna herself has thrown the likes of Ladbrokes Puppy Derby finalist Teejays Panther and 24.00 Romford open race winner Wildfire Lin.

Rio Quattro is by Ace Hi Rumble, when Droopys Donna threw a litter to Rumble it contained, Droopys Kolarov who won stayers opens at Perry Barr and Hall Green, Emils Banjo who was a 2014 Irish Produce Stakes Finalist (and a 28.30 Clonmel hound) and Romford 575m open race winner Brookside King among others. Given the same sire line (just removed a generation) we are looking forward to seeing if Nuka can add to this list of open class greyhounds.

Droopys Hyde

Born December 2015
Black dog by Laughil Blake out of Droopys Safina

Laughil Blake won the Irish Derby in 2014, a powerful wide runner who stayed every inch of the 503m trip, he would only hit the track in 22 races in his career, winning 14. His half brother Laughil Duke currently holds the 549m track record at Shelbourne while his litter brother Laughil Bolt would win the Derby Plate on the same evening as Blake won the Derby. Again it is a case of an early litter with Blake, with 4 of his 13 pups to hit the track so far being winners.

Droopys Safina was a little more exposed on the track than Donna was , a multiple winner at Sheffield, she scored in top grade, regularly running on well at the end of those 500m races. She threw Russanda Duke in her first litter, the winner of 13 Open races, over the 280, 480 and 500m trips at Sheffield as well as over the 500m trip at Nottingham. Droopys Capital was a 500, 660 and 720m Open race winner at Sheffield also from her first litter while in her second came Droopys Cortez. He would win 7 of his 19 career starts (all Open races) including 500 and 660m at Sheffield as well as 480m at Newcastle. She has had just 5 boys hit the track, including 3 of her 4 top rated, so Hyde has the potential to be a very exciting prospect for the myracing greyhound syndicate.

Droopys Dazzle

Born October 2015
Blue bitch by Greenwell Hawk out of Droopys Rhiona

Dazzle is the curveball thrown at us by Droopys Kennel. Greenwell Hawk ran just 11 times in his career, winning Open races at both Newcastle and Nottingham. He stayed those stiff 4 bends strongly and would likely have been better over a longer trip in time but he would run just once back in Ireland, checking at the first bend and his racing career was done. He has thrown 3 litters who have hit the track so far, all to Droopys bitches so the Dunphys believe in his ability as a sire.

Droopys Rhiona never made it to the track as a race dog, kept back specifically for breeding, this is her second litter. Droopys Lemon is arguably the pick of that first litter, a Open race winner at Harlow, she is also an A1 winner at Poole. 6 of Dazzle’s litter have already hit the track, Droopys Extra the sole winner so far, scoring in A7 and A6 at Sheffield.

Others have been very highly tried given their inexperience, Brinkleys Jayne ran for the first time in an Open race at Hove, Droopys Expert was pitched straight into the Gymcrack at Kinsley while Greenwell Simba kicked off his career at Shawfield, finishing 4th in the RPGTV Puppy Final on Scottish Derby Final night. Dazzle is a little behind her comrades hitting the track but we are hoping that she quickly makes up for lost time with her siblings evidently well regarded.
