A strong field of ten go to post for the forth race of the day at Chepstow on Friday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: He just keeps on putting in good effort after good effort and ROY’S LEGACY is still capable of another victory off today’s mark under 5lb claimer Charlie Bennett. He has form figures of 421122 since March and he was very unlucky not to win on Tuesday when headed on the post at Chelmsford on the all weather. He remains on the same mark and the small gap between races is no concern as he’s been turned around quickly in the past. He can take this step up in class in his stride to take another victory for Shaun Harris at the expense of Quantum Dot, who will be dangerous if given a soft lead.
SILVERRICA – Seven time winner for Malcolm Saunders and although she isn’t he most reliable, she ran a great race to win three starts ago at Bath off a pound lower mark than today’s. She ended the season with a respectable run off today’s mark at Bath, attempting to make all which perhaps didn’t suit as she faded in the closing stages. Her record fresh does suggest there will be other days but she couldn’t be discounted for minor honours under 5lb claimer Georgia Cox.
POUR LA VICTOIRE – Last win came at Brighton in May 2016 but the handicapper has not been kind to him since as he’s been largely consistent in defeat, only dropped two pound despite failing to win in six subsequent starts. Returns from 205 days off the track still 4lb above his last winning mark and this looks a big ask on seasonal reappearance, despite conditions being to suit. Likely to need the handicapper to show some leniency before he takes another victory.
EDGED OUT – Won this race off one pound lower after a lay off when digging in gamely and despite her only threatening once in four subsequent runs last season, she cannot be ruled out now given a lay off. Conditions have moved into her favour and Mitch Godwin takes off a useful 5lb, so she shouldn’t be taken lightly and any market support should be noted, as it’ll likely be a sign of her fitness and confidence growing around her.
BABYFACT – Second runner for Malcolm Saunders who won three times last summer, but ended the year very quietly and signed off the season when well beaten at Bath in October. She returned this season when showing little on seasonal debut, beaten around five lengths and never threatening to get involved. She is now 3lb above her last winning mark and although it’s impossible to rule her out with conditions to suit, there is likely to be other days and she can only be given each way claims.
SWENDAB – Versatile tactically though is likely to want to lead this field and this nine year old won three starts ago at Kempton on the all weather, prominent throughout before taking over close home. He was far from disgraced on his latest start at Bath when second Secretfact after attempting to make all, clear of the third and he remains on the same mark. Unlikely to be able to dominate this field but he can drop and looks to have each way claims at his best.
POWERFUL WIND – 2015 winner off this race off a 9lb higher mark, though he isn’t as good as he once was and will need more in this on his return to the turf. He’s been respectably on the all weather of late, placing on his last two runs, the latest of which when third at Southwell. A mark of 64 shouldn’t be insurmountable but he hasn’t threatened to win in his last two wins and he’s likely to find at least one to good in this again back on the grass.
ROY’S LEGACY – Running well of late for Shaun Harris with form figures of 421122 since March and his latest victory came at Chelmsford three starts ago, always travelling well and he could be called the winner a while from home. He has ran well in defeat the last twice when second on both occasion, headed on the post on Tuesday at Chelmsford. He goes back up in class today but he still seems well enough handicapped and should make a bold bid for glory under 5lb claimer Charlie Bennett.
QUANTUM DOT – Won twice over C&D in the summer of 2016, though he’s now 4lb higher than for the latest of those wins which came on his latest start in August. He made all that day in convincing fashion and you wouldn’t be amiss to say he was still feasibly treated, though a soft lead is highly unlikely in this field despite his good draw. Callum Shepherd takes off a useful 3lb and he should go close for Ed de Giles.
BONJOUR STEVE – Had been in reasonable form before gaining a win on the all weather at Southwell in January off a 3lb lower mark, running on to lead close home. The ground has come into his favour and the Richard Price yard have had a winner of late, so a follow up certainly wouldn’t be out of the question if David Probert can get him into a prominent position early on. Likely type if ready to roll after 123 days off an is respected.
MOLLY JONES – Last three of her wins have come at Bath and this eight year old is 10lb out of the weights, which tempers enthusiasms for her straight away. She hasn’t threatened on any of her runs this year for Matthew Salaman and she makes no appeal in this.
