3.30pm Kempton Tips & Betting Preview 20/03/2017

This is an interesting fillies’ maiden at Kempton, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Some of these fillies could turn out to be really nice types and a chance is taken on GLOBAL ALEXANDER in this. She’s a well-bred daughter of Dark Angel and this yard do very well with horses just like this and she could turn out to be a cut above if she handles the experience here. Double Spin is an obvious danger but she’s not been seen for a while and is a bit short in the betting here.

1 DOUBLE SPIN – Once-raced Hard Spun filly for a yard that does extremely well here (22% strike rate). She was very green on debut and was sent to the front under Frankie Dettori and she just suffered in the finish for her earlier exertions. She didn’t get the clearest of trips that day but she’ll know a lot more about her job today now returning back to Kempton to race over C&D again. She remains over 7 furlongs and she’s likely to be strong in the betting and will be dangerous if fit enough now returning from a 264-day break.

2 FROM A DISTANCE – There was plenty of money around for David Simcock’s runner on debut when backed into 2/1 from 3/1. She was green that day but wasn’t beaten too far over a trip that may have been just on the short side for her. That was a nice introduction to racing and this step up to 7 furlongs and the switch to Kempton should suit. Well-related on pedigree but yard only have a 14% strike rate here. One to keep an eye on in the betting.

3 GARNETTA – 20,000GNS purchase as a yearling and related to a winner over further abroad. Yard have been very quiet of late with only one runner in the last 14 days and they’re not renowned for debutant winners. The yard do boast a positive £10.33 profit to level stakes at Kempton but she’s one that’s likely to need further and is best watched today.

4 GLOBAL ALEXANDER – A very well-bred filly that was bought for 160,000 Euros as a yearling in Ireland. She’s a daughter of Dark Angel out of a mare by Cape Cross and another to get the ‘Alexander’ suffix. This yard are very capable of getting one ready first time out and the yard have had a winner from two runners in the last 14 days which is always a positive. Adam Kirby is booked and there could be lots of market support for this one on debut. Very interesting.

5 IRISH SKY – She was a 25,000 Euro purchase as a yearling and makes her racecourse debut today for a trainer with only 2 wins in 21 attempts at Kempton. She is related to a couple of winners but they’re nothing of note and it would be a surprise to see her strike here at the first time of asking. Best watched here.

6 PREOBRAJENSKA – Most experienced runner in the field, has run with credit in four starts to date with her best efforts coming on turf in June of last year. She has transferred to William Jarvis from the Michael Bell yard since her last run and it’ll be interesting to see how she fares off a 74 day break and a return to 7 furlongs. There’s a nagging doubt that she may be better on turf but she has some decent form to her name and could be dangerous now tried on a quicker All-Weather surface for the first time.

7 RECKLESS WOMAN – 50,000GNS purchase as a yearling and by Helmet who’s had plenty of first time out winners as a freshman sire. She is related to All-Weather winners and she could be a really interesting contender if she’s fully wound up on debut for a yard that has a leading 23% strike rate here. John Egan is booked for the ride (1 winner from last 28 rides) and she’s worth a second look in the betting today.

8 SECRET SALVAGE – Wasn’t suited to the fibresand at Southwell last time out and it’s probably fair to ignore that run although she was only a length and a quarter behind a subsequent winner. She’ll be much more suited to Kempton although the step down in trip to 7 furlongs didn’t look an obvious move on what she’s shown to date. She’ll get a mark after today’s run and it may be worth waiting until she’s entered into handicaps to get involved.

9 WESTERN SAFARI – 65,000 Euro purchase as a yearling, related to an All-Weather winner and out of a mare with black type in her pedigree. She’s by High Chaparral whose progeny generally appreciate a bigger test of stamina although her dam won twice over 6 furlongs so today’s trip may be fine. Yard are in good recent form (3 winners from last 15 runners) although their racecourse debutants haven’t always been primed first time out and market should be revealing.
