Nine line up for today’s feature race at Wolverhampton run over 1m4f and worth £4,722 to the winner in what looks an interesting race with some potential improvers in the line up. Read on for our expert’s thoughts and betting tips.
IN SUMMARY: TANGRAMM is a course specialist with five wins here in the last fourteen months and should strip fitter for his run at Kempton last time out. He won twice at this trip last Winter and can defy a career high mark to get back on the winning trail. He won’t an even easy time of things with Ardamir set to go well for Adam Kirby and Alan King judged on his last run here and Hermann, who can be forgiven his last run when not best placed. They should make it a good test for the selection.
Tangramm – Won seven of his last twelve starts including five at Wolverhampton over various trips up to Class 5 level. Well beaten in his last two starts at Kempton from a mark of 83 over 1m3f but did win twice over this trip last Winter. Was returning from a break of seven months last time out so should be fitter this time around and he can go well dropped another 1lb and stepped into Class 4 company with that run behind him. Looks a big player on previous form.
Giantstepsahead – Five time winner including over today’s trip but has been well below his highest mark of 87 in his last four runs including when well beaten at Kempton at this distance last time out. Makes his Tapeta debut today and best watched for now.
Faithful Creek – Achieved a career high mark of 110 when trained by Brian Meehan and on a losing streak of twenty four runs now. Well beaten in his last four starts since moving to Mick Appleby and never won at this trip or grade. On a career low mark for this but strike rate since 2014 is a big negative and cheekpieces and a hood will need to spark huge improvement for him to get involved in this.
Ardamir – Dual purpose performer whose only win in his last twelve starts came over hurdles at Doncaster (Good) in February after which he was pulled up in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. Mixed form in his last four runs but ran well when third of 12 over Course and Distance from today’s mark of 78 and could go well under Adam Kirby who is 9-35 in the last two weeks.
Ride The Lightning – Two time winner last year including over this trip at Lingfield last month. Has been placed twice before at this track including once at this level but on career high mark of 81 now and was down the field in eighth in a ten runner event at Lingfield last time out over 1m4f. Hard to fancy.
Hermann – Lightly raced colt by Authorized with only three starts so far but won over 1m1f at this course on his second start in November and should have more to give from a mark of 81 given he was badly positioned when a well beaten favourite over this trip last time out. Place claims.
Clovelly Bay – Only two wins from 16 career starts but did get up to win by 1¼ last time out at Lingfield in a Class 5 apprentice event under today’s 7lb claimer. Makes his Tapeta debut for this but will need a career best from a mark of 74 and difficult to see him following up.
Ravens Quest – Only one win from 8 runs when trained by Hughie Morrison and achieved a mark of 80 in the process. Down to a mark of 72 today but was well beaten from 3lb higher last time out at Lingfield and still 2lb above his last winning mark. Makes Tapeta debut today and easy to overlook given he was well beaten on his only start at 1m4f.
Threediamondrings – One win from 8 runs so far but has been placed on his last two visits to this track and 1¼ lengths behind the winner last time out in a Class 5 at this track on Boxing Day. Needs improvement upped in grade and wears a tongue strap for this. Best watched for now with the yard operating at a -£14.00 to a level stake already this year.
