.20pm Southwell Tips & Betting Preview 06/12/2016

This is likely to be a tactically run race over the 1m6f with £3,881 on its way to the winner. Read on for our experts’ thoughts and betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: This looks to be all about HIGH COMMAND who has the beating of some of these after his win here 26 days ago and he looks promising for his top trainer. He should take this with a minimum of fuss and can go on to better things. Marshall Aid finished down the field last time and can chase him home if taking to the surface.

Yul Finegold – Has won here before, the last coming in a Class 5 Claiming Stakes in January. Well below form when upped in grade last time at Newcastle, when only 12th of 14 at Newcastle 18 days ago. That was over 1m2f and up significantly in trip today. Wears cheek-pieces for the first time and others look stronger over this distance.

High Command – Lightly-raced for top yard and showed fair form in first three runs. Last two have shown stark improvement, including third behind Ajman Prince two starts ago, form of which is working out well in the context of this race. Followed up by winning comfortably in this grade over 1m 4f here 26 days ago. Up 6lb and looks the most progressive given most of the rivals he faces today have questions to answer.

Deep Resolve – Won here in April in a Class 6 by a short head. Poor form upped in grade since and only fifth in a similar race won here by High Command 26 days ago. Unlikely to reverse form with that one in this and will no doubt struggle again.

Captain Swift – Poor strike-rate with only 1 win from 21 runs and that came at Haydock. Best run since last September when 3 ¾ lengths third behind High Command 26 days ago here. Down in weights today and could go well but faces a tough assignment against re-opposing winner to get his nose in front today given mixed form in this grade in five runs prior to that.

Marshall Aid – Still a Maiden and lightly raced 3-y-o who was previously trained by Hugo Palmer. Sent off a well-backed 15/8 favourite in a similar handicap at Chelmsford 19 days ago and finished a length back in second, looking in need of a sterner test of stamina. Makes his Fibresand debut today and place chance if handling the surface. Will stay this far.

Come Back King – Still only a 3 year old and without a win in five starts so far. Seven lengths behind in sixth to the re-opposing High Command 26 days ago at this course. Looks held by that one again and connections reach for blinkers. Can be ruled out for this.

Albert Boy – Lightly-raced 3-y-o with one win at Redcar in a Class 5 over 1m1f in April on Heavy ground being his best race so far. Well beaten in lesser grade when only seventh of 11 in a Handicap here 26 days ago when 22/1 and takes a big step up in trip today. Hard to fancy in this and out of the handicap by 1lb.
