IN SUMMARY: Royal Salute commands respect after a good win in similar conditions latest at Fontwell, but it may well pay to give another chance to TWENTY EIGHT GUNS. He ran well to a point on chase debut when making 2 errors which he couldn’t recover from, however he was giving away a lot of weight to many of his rivals and if improving his jumping he may well be the answer to this contest.

1 ROYAL SALUTE – Poor chase debut at Bangor back in April (2m4f, Good) before putting that behind him when being an eased down winner at Fontwell last Sunday (2m5f, Soft). These conditions will suit and has to be respected as a repeat of that performance may be tough to beat.

2 TWENTY EIGHT GUNS – Decent chase debut back in October when making two severe errors that stopped him from being competitive at the finish at Hexham (2m4f, Good). Should have learned from that effort and these softer conditions should suit better, so he’s given the nod under Richie McLernon with cheekpieces back on.

3 MR BACHSTER – Very in and out for most of his career and very tired latest at Fontwell when pulling up quite timidly (2m1f, Heavy). Usually a prominent racer or leads and may have the luxury of a soft one today which could help, but isn’t the most solid option and may need this run as he hasn’t been seen since April.

4 HUMBEL BEN – 13yo who bids for a hat-trick after 2 good efforts at Fontwell and Bangor over the 2m1f trip. Should make another bold bid as a C&D winner but may well be found out this time, but has place claims.

5 TRY IT SOMETIME – Not in the groove lately with 3 poor showings, the latest of which when a very poor 6th here back in October (2m3f, Soft). Profile isn’t convincing overall and probably best to steer clear.

6 THE OMEN – Last seen when pulling up here back in March, running no sort of race (2m4f, Good to Soft). Last win came back in 2014 and the majority of his profile doesn’t inspire confidence, look elsewhere.
