5.25pm Chelmsford Tips & Betting Preview 10/10/2016

IN SUMMARY: POPLAR (3/1) placed off of this mark the last twice here and first time cheekpieces could eke out more improvement. The Brisland trained gelding has very frustrating but he has the better of Cadland Lad on the form book. Sharp Boy and Bemusement are unexposed and could be the main dangers on handicap debut.

1 POPLAR – Brisland’s gelding has placed twice here off of this mark is his last two races and has the good claim of Callum Shepherd to help today who takes off a useful 3lb. First time cheekpieces are added which could eke out some more improvement and has to be considered.

2 TOLEDO – Not been in form on the Turf recently but the last time he was on the All Weather he posted a career best when winning at Wolverhampton in February (6f, Std). Judging by the fact all his better efforts have come on this surface its probable he much prefers it to the turf, and if coming back to form for the switch he could well be guided home by Fitzpatrick’s useful 3lb claim.

3 SILVER SPRINGS – Is on the same mark as when winning over C&D last December. Largely out of form recently however which tempers enthusiasm and will most likely find one to good in this.

4 SHARP BOY – Best effort so far came at this venue when 5th of 6 back in August over 5f. Not much form to go off of but is unexposed and goes into handicap company for the first time. Will most likely improve and has to be respected.

5 DECISIVE – 0-14 but has placed on a few occasions, including on penultimate start over C&D back in August. Something was most likely amiss when she was hampered and eased at Newcastle last month, and will most likely fight for the placings, but yet to convince she can break her maiden.

6 BEMUSEMENT – Didn’t show much in 3 starts in Maiden company at various tracks including here on latest start when down the field in an 8f Maiden Stakes. It would be disappointing to see her not improve now in handicap company off of a low mark, but not enough evidence to put her forward for win purposes.

7 CADLAND LAD – Has placed on 9 out of his 10 AW starts and was a half a length 2nd here latest over C&D. Is 0-17 however and hard to trust that today will be the day that he can break his maiden, but considered for place purposes.

8 NELSON’S PRIDE – NR

9 FEARLESS POPPY – Has shown nothing on 4 starts, not beating a single rival home on all occasions. Can’t see that changing today either.
