IN SUMMARY: Monotype produced a good performance when dropped back to 1m4f at Ffos Las last month and has scope for further progress but this race is quite a bit stronger and, at the early prices, the one to be with is TAWDEEA. David O’Meara’s 4yo landed a big pot at Haydock in July and was in thick thick of things for a long way before weakening in the closing stages of the Ebor on his latest outing. He’ll find this easier and will be suited by today’s ground. Fabricate has also contested some very competitive handicaps this season and there were mitigating circumstances when he was a beaten favourite at Doncaster last month, but he seems rather one-paced. Stars Over The Sea is fully exposed but likely to be on the premises. Faithful Mount is in excellent form and bids to complete a hat-trick, but does so from 4lb out of the handicap.
Stars Over The Sea – Useful hurdler who rejoined Mark Johnston for current Flat campaign and has won twice on fast ground (1m2f/1m4f); holds no secrets from the handicapper but was very respectable fifth in valuable contest at Newbury (1m2f, good to soft) last month and probably won’t be far away.
Tawdeea – Has contested some hot handicaps this summer and, having won the Old Newton Cup at Haydock (1m4f, soft) in July, ran quite a bit better than his 19l defeat might suggest when finishing in the ruck in the Ebor at York in August; in calmer waters here and can pose a potent threat.
Noble Gift – Won a similar race to this over C&D (soft) just under a year ago and is currently only 1lb higher than when gamely making all at Ripon (1m2f, good to soft) in April; his fortunes have been rather mixed since then but he didn’t run badly in a Polytrack Group 3 last month and is not ruled out.
Classic Collection – Lightly raced 4yo who was tailed off over 1m on seasonal debut at Haydock in April and hasn’t been seen since; won readily at Doncaster (1m2f, good to soft) a year ago and retains potential to build on that performance but others have much less to prove.
Fabricate – Fifth off today’s mark in the Duke Of Edinburgh handicap at Royal Ascot (1m4f, good to soft) in June and was placed in a Listed handicap at Chester (13.5f, good) in August; claims on that evidence but was a disappointing favourite at Doncaster last month (albeit lost a shoe) and seems to lack a change of gear.
Monotype – Ran well over staying trips on first three starts this season and was evidently suited by the drop back to 1m4f when a clearcut winner at Ffos Las (soft) last month; still quite lightly raced but has 6lb rise and stronger opposition to overcome here.
Passover – Predictably got tired after blasting off in front in valuable Newbury event last month and is probably better judged on the form he showed when placed on consecutive starts at Newmarket (1m2f/1m4f) in August; will be fine on today’s ground but faces tough task from 4lb out of the handicap.
Faithful Mount – Responded well to fitting of cheekpieces and won both starts last month, the first over C&D and the more recent at Haydock (1m6f, good); competes from 4lb out of the handicap this time but is evidently at the top of his game; no surprise if he makes a bold bid from the front.
myracing Forecast Prices: 5/2 Monotype, 9/2 Fabricate, 6/1 Stars Over The Sea, Faithful Mount, 7/1 Tawdeea, Classic Collection, 12/1 Noble Gift, 14/1 Passover
