We’ve got a significant amount of racing action to sink our teeth into on Thursday, with six meetings across Britain and Ireland. There’s also unmissable Group 1 action in France, which has attracted the interest of several British and Irish trainers. Mullins and Townend combine with one runner at Limerick and Tony Martin is sending one over to Haydock. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz made a winning start to the new campaign in the Prix Ganay last month and should prove tricky to beat in this Group 1 contest. There will be bigger tests for him this season but Hong Kong Vase winner Sosie is no mug and Leffard is also a Group 1 winner.
There’s a significant amount of British and Irish interest in the evening’s other Group 1, the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier and Joseph O’Brien’s globetrotting star Al Riffa should be in the mix. Prix Du Cadran winner Caballo De Mar will be competitive, as will William Haggas’ Santorini Star.
Willie Mullins has a very healthy strike-rate of 38 per cent with his jumps runners at Limerick in the last five seasons and his stable jockey Paul Townend’s is even higher at 47 per cent over the same period of time. They combine with Ocastle Des Mottes in a beginners’ chase there on Thursday.
He has two hurdles victories to his name, both of which came in France, but he’s probably been a little disappointing so far. This looks like his easiest task to date though and a return to winning ways could well be on the cards.
Tony Martin is sending Goin’ over to Haydock on Thursday and the six-year-old managed to win twice for previous connections in Germany. Success has been hard to come by in Ireland but the six-year-old has run well on several occasions. Stamina could be a potential issue as both of his wins came over 1m4f, although he wasn’t disgraced when third over this trip at Thurles in October.
