Our race preview takes a look at the last on Fontwell’s card on Friday. See our betting tips below to dodge a minefield full of inconsistent and underwhelming horses to find a consistent gelding who can take advantage of his generous mark.

IN SUMMARY: The ever consistent GENEROUS CHIEF really deserves to win another race. Other than 1 blemish, his last 7 races have all had him either winning or on the premises and he is only raised 3lb for his latest good 2nd at Newton Abbot. In a field full of unknowns and horses out of form, he could well be the answer. Another who is in good form is At First Light, who ran well latest when 2nd at Uttoxeter, but was long way behind the winner.

1 YOUNG DILLON – Has won twice this year, the latest when winning well at Wetherby back in May. Pretty consistent since until not travelling well at Cartmel and being pulled up, and now connections reach for headgear. Should run well off of top weight but that latest run is hard to forgive quickly.

2 THEATRICAL STAR – Better known as a chaser but very out of form over fences, failing to finish his last 3 races and the two runs before that were pretty dire as well. Very lightly raced these days, and although his last hurdle start back in 2014 at Cheltenham was good, he’s too badly out of form to consider and might just be over hurdles to regain some confidence.

3 HORACE HAZEL – Didn’t travel a yard latest over fences after winning the time before at Worcester (2m7f, Good). Has won over hurdles and last few efforts over the smaller obstacles back in the spring were decent enough and returns to this code on an attractive looking mark. Has to be considered.

4 AT FIRST LIGHT – In no such form before finishing a decent 2nd at Uttoxeter at the start of the month (2m3f, Good). Was no match for the easy winner and hard to trust that she can maintain this form. Should get this trip as she managed it last year but struggling to have any confidence that her good form will continue.

5 LETMEGO – Has been a decent handicapper at times but devoid of consistency. Has had a break and switched yards and is on a good mark today returning to the track, but again, he can’t be backed with any sort of confidence and needs to really raise his game.

6 GENEROUS CHIEF – Very consistent and ever reliable, he was a good 2nd at Newton Abbot latest (3m2f, Good). Runs before that have yielded pleasing results, with 3 wins to his name this year thus far and this looks like another good opportunity to add another. He only goes up 3lb for that latest result and in a field full of inconsistent horses, he may well capitalise and notch up a 4th win this year.
