It’s not too often that a champion of Baaeed’s standard comes around, as the Shadwell-owned horse was truly exceptional. Winning 10 of his 11 starts, he won six consecutive Group 1s under the tutelage of William Haggas. Owen Burrows trains his full-brother and the two-year-old is set to make his debut at Ascot on Friday. If he ends up being half as good as his illustrious sibling, get ready to be wowed by an exciting debutant. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Raaheeb is the horse in question and there will be plenty of interested parties ahead of his debut. The son of Sea The Stars will face six rivals at Ascot, only two of which have won before.
Rich Ricci also has a runner and this time it isn’t a Cheltenham-bound Willie Mullins horse but an Alan King-trained juvenile with a Flat pedigree. He was fifth on debut at Ffos Las and Karl Burke’s Yy Nation is the only other runner with previous experience.
Burrows has maintained a very healthy strike-rate of 24 per cent so far this season and four of his 24 winners were two-year-olds. There’s lots to like about Raaheeb’s chances and no one would be surprised if he comes out on top here.
Raaheeb’s dam Aghareed has produced five other horses who have made it to the racecourse and all of them have won at least twice. That certainly bodes well but the two who were by Sea The Stars were excellent. Hukum represented the same yard and he won the Coronation Cup and the King George.
Obviously Baaeed was on another level however and he was exceptional between a mile and 1m2f. His only defeat came in the Champion Stakes, which was to be the then four-year-old’s last race. Aghareed’s latest son has some big shoes to fill and expectations will be high as a result.
