Dan Skelton leads the way in the British National Hunt Trainers’ Championship and Nicky Henderson is £900,000 or so behind back in third. Henderson has a particularly strong hand to play at Aintree this week however and the tables could turn. If these four Nicky Henderson runners end up winning, he would surely be in the driving seat as the title race concludes. Check out our free tips page where you will find selections for every race at Aintree’s Grand National Festival.
Jango Baie (11/4, bet365) was a surprise winner of the Arkle, having looked well beaten for most of the race before staying on to claim victory late on. Clearly he wants further than two miles so the return to 2m4f is definitely in his favour and he looks well set to follow up.
Constitution Hill (8/11, bet365) was a faller in the Champion Hurdle and it was too early to say where he would have finished. Having won this race in 2023, the 175-rated hurdler is the one to beat although he will face some stiff competition if Willie Mullins’ Lossiemouth lines up in opposition.
Jonbon (4/6, bet365) is a very talented horse, although he can be his own worst enemy at times. He’s been better than ever for most of the season but did taste defeat at Cheltenham after a bad mistake. Henderson’s gelding has always shaped like he wants further than two miles and having won this last year, a follow up victory could be on the cards.
Hyland (16/1, bet365) represents Henderson in the big one and victory would fill the one major gap in his trainer’s CV. The fact that Hyland is a novice makes this an unorthodox move but he was a good second in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton over Christmas. Experience is therefore the one slight concern but he’s talented and has scope for further improvement.
