IN SUMMARY: Kilbree Kid scored over C&D last month and remains attractively weighted on his past exploits but it remains to be seen whether his revival gathers any momentum and it could be worth chancing BY THE BOARDWALK. Kim Bailey’s 8yo lost his form in the second half of last season but proved he can go well fresh when winning in very good style over C&D a year ago and may be able to repeat the dose if a 139-day break has done him good. Western Home has been hiked up the weights since her eased-down success at Cartmel in July but represents a stable with an excellent strike-rate here. Heist also enters calculations as he bids to complete a hat-trick and Kilronan High is another with possibilities in a competitive race.
Alderbrook Lad – Goes well at Cartmel and finished second on consecutive starts there this summer (2m5f/3m1f); remains on a workable mark but needs to bounce back from a very disappointing performance and may not be seen to best effect on this right-handed circuit.
Kilronan High – Had a very mixed first season over fences and signed off with a moderate performance in May but her second to a progressive mare in a Listed handicap at Cheltenham (2m5f, good) in April was a creditable performance and she’ll be a tough nut to crack off a 2lb lower if in similar form here.
Heist – Irish-raider who bids to complete a hat-trick after two recent wins at Kilbeggan (2m4f/3m1f); led only in the last stride on the more recent occasion but remains unexposed over this sort of trip and can’t be ignored in current form.
By The Boardwalk – Seemed to lose his way in the second half of last season and was well held on his latest outing in May but returned from a break with a convincing C&D success a year ago and has slipped to a workable mark if back on song; could be the answer.
Kilbree Kid – Landed the Perth Gold Cup off a 7lb higher mark over C&D in June 2015 but subsequently suffered a dip in form; managed to take advantage of some help from the handicapper in Class 4 company back here last month but it’s not easy to predict which way he’ll go from here.
Western Home – Unlucky not to win over C&D (soft) in July (clear when final-fence faller) but quickly gained compensation with eased-down success at Cartmel (2m5f, good to soft) a few days later; hit hard by the handicapper for those exploits and been a beaten favourite twice over hurdles since then, but still considered.
Tangolan – Won over hurdles here (3m, good) in June and lost nothing in defeat when clear second in small-field chase back here (2m4f, good) this month; consistency is not his strong suit, but he won’t be far away if on a going day.
Presented – Thorough stayer who has often run well here and rallied gamely to prevail over C&D (soft) in July; today’s 2lb higher mark is probably not beyond him, but he has some questions to answer after a couple of very disappointing efforts.
