Six runners have been declared for the £20,000 handicap on Tuesday’s Yarmouth card. Our betting tips focus on a colt with plenty of potential. Read on for the full race preview.
IN SUMMARY: Despite the small field, this is a competitive 3yo handicap. YOU’RE HIRED was only third of four when a warm favourite last month but that race wasn’t run to suit and he wasn’t beaten far. On his previous outing, he overcame a poor draw and his inexperience to make a winning handicap debut at Glorious Goodwood, and he retains significant potential to progress from that performance. Point Of View flopped on his handicap debut at Royal Ascot but the ground was soft that day and he remains unexposed.Rockspirit has solid credentials after last month’s course win and, although she appears to have a few quirks, we may not have seen the best of the filly, Haddajah.
1 Rockspirit – Two wins from his four starts this year, the more recent gained here (1m2f, good to firm) last month; been raised 5lb for that but appeared to be idling in front inside the final furlong and could easily have more to offer now back up in trip.
2 Point Of View – Cost 400,000gns as a yearling and delivered on earlier promise when winning Kempton maiden (1m4f, AW) in June, his third start; struggled when making handicap debut at Royal Ascot the following month but may not have been suited by the soft ground there and still has plenty of potential.
3 Haddajah – Struggled to cope with heavy ground on handicap debut in June but bounced back to win small-field AW event at Chelmsford (1m2f) last month; may not be straightforward and still needs to prove she’s fully effective on turf but there might be more to come if first-time cheekpieces have desired effect.
4 You’re Hired – Won 7f maiden on seasonal reappearance in July and was evidently suited by the step up to 1m2f when following-up on handicap debut at Glorious Goodwood (good to firm) later that month; beaten favourite in small-field contest back at Goodwood last month but didn’t enjoy the run of the race that day; tries a new trip here and, with Ryan Moore booked, remains one to be interested in.
5 Theydon Grey – Gave very good account when fourth in valuable AW event at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in March but is seemingly much less effective on turf and was soundly beaten at Newbury (1m2f) on latest outing in May; has stamina to prove and others are much more appealing.
6 Diamond Geyser – Improved to win on handicap debut at Lingfield (1m4f, AW) in June and has finished second in two of his three subsequent turf handicaps, more recently at Goodwood (1m4f, good to firm) last month; won’t be far away if in similar form here but a couple of the others have more obvious scope to improve.
