Kerry National: all the runners, odds and a big race verdict at Listowel 💥

The Harvest Festival at Listowel always has a good atmosphere and the feature race of the entire meeting takes place on Wednesday. It’s the €200,000 Guinness Kerry National and it’s shaping up to be a competitive affair once again. Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore are responsible for the race favourite but we’re looking elsewhere with our big race verdict. Runners and odds

2. Authorized Art

He has plenty of ability but is probably vulnerable to stronger stayers and better treated runners.

3. Salvador Ziggy

If translating the form of his excellent second in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham to the larger obstacles here, he should be bang in the mix.

4. Chemical Energy

He pulled up on his final start of the season in the Irish Grand National last time out and looks vulnerable after a break.

5. Foxy Jacks

This gelding is a lively outsider, having won the Midlands National at Kilbeggan in July but he’s not particularly well treated.

6. Ain’t That A Shame

He was just touched off in the Munster National at Limerick last October and has a 9lb higher mark to contend with since that effort.

7. Ciel De Neige

Willie Mullins and JP McManus are always a dangerous combination but he probably needs some assistance from the handicapper.

8. The Goffer

Gordon Elliott’s charge could be in the mix here, having put in solid efforts at both Cheltenham and Sandown last season.

9. A Wave Of The Sea

He sports JP McManus’ first silks here but is probably best watched as he’s not the most consistent.

10. Gabbys Cross

Henry de Bromhead’s least fancied runner and he appears to have plenty to find.

12. Hurricane Georgie

The excellent Michael O’Sullivan is on board but it’s hard to make a case for this one.

13. Stealthy Tom

An 11lb rise for his latest win may prove difficult to contend with in this competitive field.

14. Stumptown

He was only just denied in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham in March and has every chance.

15. Toss Again

Struggled against Salvador Ziggy last time and will probably need more than 10lb to reverse the form.

16. Life In The Park 

This horse has a bit to find but he’s lightly raced and there could be more to come.

17. Born By The Sea

It’s hard to see this horse making an impact and he’s best watched.

18. Gevrey

Runner-up in the Irish Grand National last season, he should be thereabouts.

19. Captain Cattistock 

Not always the most consistent but a rare Irish runner for Fergal O’Brien is always of interest.

20. Desertmore House

He has won two of his three chase starts and appears to be an interesting outsider.

Verdict

There’s plenty to like about the progressive Stumptown. He ran a cracker when second at Cheltenham in March and is likely to be staying on well at the finish.
