4.00pm Ripon Tips & Betting Preview 16/08/2016

A Class 3 handicap at Ripon over 1m2f. Read our full race preview for our experts’ betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: A small field handicap and Sir Mark Prescott’s Cote D’Azur will be popular with punters after landing a quickfire hat-trick. He does need to continue his upward curve though if he’s to cope with a total rise of 14lbs and a step up in class. He’s taken on with The Queen’s filly PURE FANTASY who showed she’s very much on the up with a good second at Ffos Las last time out. Having chased home another improver over a distance that didn’t suit she’ll relish the return to today’s trip. Roger Charlton turns to Sean Levey for the first time in the saddle and a big is run expected.

1 Silvery Moon – Never dangerous after missing the break on latest outing ten days ago and better judged on his trio of good efforts over 1m last month, the first a win on heavy ground at Haydock; today’s faster conditions won’t be a problem and he’s been shaping as though ready for another crack at 1m2f; could have a say.

2 Final – Has struck form and won consecutive starts at Beverley this summer (1m2f/8.5f); never really threatened the winner when second there (8.5f, good to firm) on latest outing and is another 2lb higher today, but would probably have preferred a stronger pace and it would be dangerous to assume his progress is over.

3 Cote D’Azur – Displayed a jolt of improvement and completed a quick hat-trick for Sir Mark Prescott last month (1m1f-1m2f); evidently in very good nick but been raised a total of 14lb and it’s unlikely his former trainer would have sold him if he expected significant further improvement; debut for Les Eyre today.

4 Cape Of Glory – Was in good form earlier in the year winning twice on the all weather in January (Chelmsford and Southwell) before being rested. Hasn’t shown anything like that form on both starts since returning in May and sold by James Tate to Keith Dalgleish two weeks ago. Has it all to prove on turf for new connections.

5 Green Howard – Capable and has better form than the majority of today’s field but hasn’t shown it for some considerable time. Looked better when fourth at Pontefract last time out but without a win for nearly two years and it isn’t difficult to look past this exposed at 8 year old.

6 Pure Fantasy – Showed plenty of promise when scoring in good style at Nottingham in June. Didn’t manage to follow that up next time out but was back to form last time out when chasing home a rival on the improve at Ffos Las. The step down in trip today should suit and she should go well off bottom weight.
