Red-hot Frankie Dettori travels to Bellewstown to ride one horse

It is a big day for Bellewstown Racecourse on Thursday. The legendary Barney Curley will be remembered and there is a race in honour of him on the card. The Gannons City Recovery And Recycling Services Ltd. Supporting DAFA Handicap runs at 3.05.

DAFA is short for Direct Aid For Africa, an organisation that Curley founded in 1996 and all monies raised will go to that charity. It is then no surprise to see plenty of support for the race in question.

Frankie Dettori and Jamie Spencer will fly over from Britain to take part in the race. It is a charity race in a way but it is still a normal competitive handicap that everyone will want to win.

3.05 Bellewstown

Jamie Spencer will take the ride on the Des Donovan-trained Tipperary Moon but all eyes will be firmly focused on Frankie Dettori. The Italian maestro is in red-hot form of late and will no doubt be a popular choice in the betting ring at Bellewstown.

He will take his chance on the likely favourite, the Johnny Murtagh-trained Trueba. Sporting the JP Murtagh Racing silks, this five-year-old gelding has been in good form all summer and looks sure to give a good account of himself yet again.

Trueba won at Limerick over 7f in June and was beaten less than three lengths into fourth at the Curragh in August in a 16-runner handicap off 77. Running off 73 here, he looks well treated on the pick of his form and ran a solid third at the Galway Festival when last seen. It’s great to see a small track gain so much publicity and a Frankie winner would be popular.
