Read our full race preview for the 1m5f handicap on Thursday Hamilton card. Our betting tips focus on a recent AW winner who returns to turf a workable handicap mark.
IN SUMMARY: For of race of this grade, this doesn’t have much strength in depth. Lightly raced 3yo Lord Yeats is an obvious one for the shortlist, having made all to score over 1m4f on his handicap debut last month. He has plenty of potential to progress but he’s gone up 8lb and preference is for BE PERFECT, who began the season in moderate form but produced a good performance to win on Tapeta last month, will probably be seen to better effect now back on turf and remains well handicapped. Lara Carbonara has a point to prove disappointing on her latest outing but looked good when winning over C&D two starts ago. Dominada has been in decent form and also has a part to play.
Faithful Mount – Gained both of last season’s wins at Salisbury and there’s a strong chance he’ll also be suited by this track; current campaign has begun with two decent efforts and he ought to give another good account here, but he could use some help from the handicapper.
Dominada – Won a juvenile hurdle last summer and was subsequently suited by the step up to middle-distance/staying trips back on the Flat; took form to new level when scoring at Musselburgh (1m6f, good) in May but had to settle for third off new mark at Catterick last month and probably needs to take another step forward.
Be Perfect – Has gradually worked his way back to form this season and looked in excellent nick when taking advantage of slightly lower AW mark at Newcastle (1m4f) last month; remains well handicapped on best of last year’s exploits and will probably be better suited by today’s longer trip; can make a bold bid from the front.
Time Of My Life – Gained both wins on soft ground in France in 2014; made encouraging British debut when fourth over C&D (soft) in May and is now 4lb lower but both subsequent runs have been disappointing and today’s conditions aren’t really in his favour.
Agent Gibbs – Made excellent progress and won four times (1m2f-1m4f) for Ali Stronge last year, and also ran well a couple of times for that yard after a break in spring; well below best on first two starts for John O’Shea last month, though, and now has quite a bit to prove.
Hot Spice – Struck form and won twice at around 2m just over a year ago but seemed badly to have lost his way by the autumn and was tailed off when back in action last month; could be considered only if attracting market support.
Lara Carbonara – Irish-raider who came from off the pace to win C&D amateur riders’ event over C&D last month; tackles stronger opposition today and was disappointing over 1m4f back here a few days later but not yet fully exposed over this sort of trip and enters calculations.
Lord Yeats – Lightly raced 3yo who displayed improvement to make winning handicap debut at Ripon (1m4f, good) from the front four weeks ago; raised 8lb for that but the form has been franked by the runner-up and he could easily have more to offer.
