Saint-Cloud racecourse is located in the west of Paris in France, and first started racing back in 1901. It hosts flat racing only, no National Hunt action at all, and race meetings occur mainly from March until December, with a number of high-class Group races scattered across the season.
The Saint-Cloud racecourse is made up of an oval with a separate finishing straight, which is connected back to the main oval by a bend soon after the finishing post.
This layout and 15 different starting posts allow for races from 800 metres (4 furlongs) right up to 3,100 metres (just shy of two miles) to be run anti-clockwise around the track. There is also a 900 metre straight line track for sprint races.
With the nature of the track putting an emphasis on speed and the ability to hold a good racing position, you don’t want to get caught too far back in the field. The home straight is on the shorter side of things as well, meaning any form of trouble in-running late in the contest can mean game over for even the most talented of horses. A runner with the gears to stay travelling in its comfort zone is a must! The experts at myracing can help to point you in the right direction of horses who should enjoy running at Saint-Cloud!
Saint-Cloud hosts a number of important races in the French racing calender, including three Group 1’s every year – the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, Critérium International & Critérium de Saint-Cloud.
We will bring you Saint Cloud tips for these three major races, and for every major meeting at this racecourse throughout the season.
The leading trainers at this racecourse according to France-Galop over the recent years have been:
2017 – André Fabre – 18 wins
2018 – André Fabre – 19 wins
2019 – André Fabre – 18 wins
In fact, you have to go back more than 10 years to 2009 to find the last year that Andre Fabre wasn’t France-Galop’s leading trainer at Saint-Cloud!
It is therefore no surprise that the leading jockey of recent years is Pierre-Charles Boudot, who still rides regularly for André Fabre having been his apprentice back in 2009. Close up behind Boudot in 2019 was the supremely talented Maxime Guyon on 20 wins from 141 rides and he is another rider worth keeping in mind when trying to find a betting pick at Saint-Cloud.
The action from Saint-Cloud can be viewed on Sky Sports Racing, Sky channel number 415, 535 on Virgin and 418 on Virgin Ireland or via streaming services offered by major bookmakers.
