3.20pm Newmarket Tips & Betting Preview 12/04/2016

IN SUMMARY: Grandad’s World made a winning seasonal debut in 2015 and the booking of Ryan Moore bodes well as he bids to repeat the dose today. Richard Fahey’s other runner, Patrick, was a disappointing favourite when given an assignment in Ireland last month but had been in good form on the AW beforehand and is also considered. However, the suggestion is YEEOOW (16/1 Each Way), who has been placed in three consecutive Kempton handicaps this year and went close in a valuable C&D event on his only previous visit to Newmarket. Desert Force and Childesplay complete the shortlist.

1 Gamesome – Ran well in some hot handicaps for Olly Stevens last season and suffered interference when midfield in Stewards’ Cup when last in action 255 days ago; however, is yet to add to his 2yo maiden success in 2013; joined Paul Midgley for 75,000gns in October.

2 Golden Amber – Three wins in 2015, the latest when rallying well in the final furlong over C&D (good) in September; ought to get the strong pace she wants today but returns from break on fairly tough mark and needs to make further progress.

3 Justice Good – Drew a black in 2015 and has been unplaced all three AW starts this year, most recently when down the field over 5f at Wolverhampton in February; gradually slipping down the weights and will be suited by today’s return to turf but others preferred.

4 Grandad’s World – Inconsistent in 2015 but made a winning seasonal debut a year ago and subsequent second in valuable event at York (6f, good to soft) was an excellent effort; not seen since August but booking of Ryan Moore suggests a big run is expected.

5 Teruntum Star – Returned to form with convincing success on the July course here (6f, soft) last summer but signed off last season with two disappointing performances and it’s hard to know what to expect on today’s reappearance.

6 Amazour – Began 2015 campaign with two convincing wins (6f/7f) and was creditable sixth when upped to 1m at Royal Ascot; season fizzled out after that but he’s on a workable mark of refreshed by winter break.

7 Desert Force – Began last season with win from the front over 7f at this meeting and coped fine with drop back to 6f when second back here on 2,000 Guineas day; below that form when last seen in September but still enters calculations.

8 Free Code – Campaigned mainly over 7f last season, winning twice; not sure to be suited by today’s drop back in trip and will need to return from seven-month absence in peak form to have any chance off current mark.

9 Lucky Beggar – Entitled to have benefited from recent reappearance run at Kempton but is no longer the force of old and hasn’t tasted victory for two years; hood removed after one application; others have more appealing profiles.

10 Patrick – Disappointing favourite when sent to Ireland for latest outing three weeks ago but returned from break with two good AW runs and could still have some improvement in him on turf; can be given another chance.

11 Bertiewhittle – Usually races over further and was always towards rear when 33/1 for 7f Fibresand event last month; better suited by turf but this a very tough race in which to bounce back, and he’ll require a very strong pace over this trip.

12 Childesplay – Made very pleasing seasonal debut when close second over 7f at Wolverhampton last month; this race is stronger but he’s also suited by 6f on turf and is likely to have a fitness edge over some of today’s rivals; one to consider.

13 Yeeoow – Dipped into plating company to gain latest win, at Lingfield (6f, AW) in January, but has been placed in three consecutive Kempton handicaps since then; ran a big race over C&D on sole previous visit to Newmarket (in May 2014) and might be the answer.

14 Baddilini – Non-runner
