Nigel Twiston-Davies Stable Update 20/01/2018

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

With Cheltenham sneaking up fast we made the most of a less stressed Nigel this morning, though that situation may well change as the weeks go by and the pressure builds with so many superstars in the yard! All is well at home as they move in to worrying times and the balance between working horses as much as necessary and the inherent risk of injury before their seasonal targets, though Nigel reports both Wholestone and Bristol De Mai are firmly on target for next weekend at Cheltenham.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £25 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this week it will be on……

The New One 2.40pm Haydock Saturday

“It looks as if we have scared off a good few possible opponents this afternoon and only have the three other runners to beat, though in racing you can never count your chickens sadly but I have to be more than just hopeful. He is buzzing at home still and takes his racing well, and having won this race for the last three years there is not a lot to say about track trip etc as he obviously does well here and fingers crossed for win number four.”

If The New One wins, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday Selections:

Tintern Theatre 3.15pm Haydock

He may be a decent price but write this one off at your peril as he is improving hand over fist with every race and put in a really good performance to win at Kempton over three miles with plenty left in the tank to call on if needed, and although he has been put up four pounds for that, Jamie Bargary claims back three of them and I am confident of a big run again this afternoon despite the valuable prize on offer.”

The Hollow Ginge 3.35pm Warwick

“Time for his handicap debut this afternoon and although I do not think the handicapper has been as generous as I would have liked with an opening mark of 125 I am hoping he has enough improvement in him to take the spoils this afternoon with the heavy going and the extended trip very much in his favour.”
