Tip: COMPAS SCOOBIE at 10/1 (Each Way)
IN SUMMARY: Although things didn’t go his way in the Portland, COMPAS SCOOBIE (10/1 EACH WAY) still remains with potential off his current mark and a return to the all weather should prompt a career best out of this four year old. He makes his debut today for in form connections and with Aaron Jones claiming three pounds, he should be tough to beat.
GRACIOUS JOHN – Back to near his best when scoring at Lingfield ten days ago, winning by a cosy length. He’s under a penalty here but a repeat of that performance would see him going very close, despite top weight. Has to be respected.
DOCTOR SARDONICUS – Has won two of his last three starts, taking a five furlong Handicap at Chelmsford when last seen in August. That was a comfortable success and as a result he arrives here six pounds higher, but he couldn’t be discounted nwo that he’s been give a 129 day break, as he’s gone well fresh in the past.
DOC SPORTELLO – Had a great campaign on the tapeta last winter but he suffered badly at the weights as a consequence. He was beaten out of sight at Haydock when last seen in September and although the handicapper is slowly relenting, he’s still seven pounds above his last winning mark. Others preferred.
TOMILY – Won at Doncaster in October thanks to a very strong pace but he’s been well beaten the last twice over both this and the six furlong distance.More is needed off this mark if he’s to be threatening and with only eight going to post, he looks vulnerable.
BOWSON FRED – Course and distance winner who hasn’t won since June 2016 but he showed encouraging signs when seconde at Newcastle last month. He’s two pounds higher now but is well weighted on previous form and if backing that run up he’s a strong contender.
SIGN OF THE KODIAC – Sold for 92,000gns last month and now makes his debut for this yard on that back of a second at Wolverhampton back in October. He’s three pounds higher here and is pitched into a tougher race, not to mention he’s drawn widest. Can only be watched.
COMPAS SCOOBIE – Two wins from four starts on the all weather and things didn’t go his way when last seen in the Portland at Doncaster. He now makes his stable debut for in form connections and with potential for better off this mark, he should be tough to beat.
SHAMSHON – Has run with credit of late for these in form connections but he was ultimately well held by Gracious John at Lingfield ten days ago. He has a pull with that rival but they are still well handicapped on previous form and this six year old holds only each way claims.
