5.05pm Worcester Tips & Betting Preview 30/08/2017

A field of six go to post for the second race of the day at Worcester on Wednesday evening, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Sonneofpresenting is a progressive front-runner who should play a key role under David Bass, as he shaped well at this trip on his latest start at Perth. That said, he comes up against a well handicapped GENTLEMAN JON, who will be much better suited to this trip than his latest start at Uttoxeter. He was racing over 2m 4f that day, only going down by a head and he’s only two pounds higher here, well treated on the best of his form. He can gain a seventh career success for Colin Tizzard.

1 KILFINICHEN BAY – Inconsistent sort for Charlie Longsdon who won three starts ago at Fontwell when leading on the post, raised three pounds as a result and he was subsequently well beaten in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter in July. He was last seen at that same venue over hurdles where he was a perhaps disappointing sixth but he’ll be happier back over fences. He is more than capable off this mark and conditions will suit, but there has to be a suspicion he’ll want further to feature.

2 WEST WIZARD – Infrequent winner for Sophie Leech whose last victory came in December when winning over the 2m 4f distance. He is now eight pounds higher but he showed an aptitude for this distance when second at Bangor over three mile trip three weeks ago, keeping on well towards the finish. He is only three pounds higher here and he is still very much unexposed at the staying distances. Likely to be on the premises under James Best and has to be respected.

3 SONNEOFPRESENTING – Lightly raced seven year old for Kim Bailey who completed a hat-trick when winning at this venue two starts ago, keeping on strongly to win the 2m 4f contest. Raised five pounds and upped to this distance, he finished a good third, keeping on well towards the finish after rallying gamely. He remains on the same mark here and there is a strong suspicion he can do better in time at these distances. David Bass retains the ride and he’s a key player here.

4 GENTLEMAN JON – Useful performer at his best for Colin Tizzard and this nine year old has been running well of late, finishing fifth in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter on his penultimate start. He backed that up when second at the same venue in a 2m 4f handicap, just outbattled towards the line. He is two pounds higher now but he will appreciate this step up in trip and he’s three pounds below his last winning mark. On that basis he looks sure to mount and a strong challenge, with another win beckoning.

5 BUACHAILL ALAINN – Course and distance winner for the in form Peter Bowen team who has been running with credit of late, last seen at Aintree where he was second to an empathic winner. He was well clear of the rest and is two pounds lower, which gives him possibilities now he’s in an easier race and down in trip slightly. His last win came off only one pound lower so he’s capable off this mark and conditions are fine. He looks a solid each way contender under Sean Bowen and shouldn’t be discounted.

6 RIVERSIDE CITY – Two wins from twenty-three starts over fences for this Jonjo O’Neill inmate who hasn’t been seen since a lacklustre ninth at Punchestown on his final run for the Gordon Elliott yard. He has to overcome a 206 day absence here and his last win came way back November 2015, so he is very opposable on this occasion for a yard that has struggled for winners of late.
