A field of eight go to post for the third race of the day at Musselburgh on Tuesday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Silvanus gained the upper hand on ECONOMIC CRISIS when they met here on their latest start, but the latter looks more than likely to reverse terms on this occasion. She won this race last season for Colin Teague and meets that rival on three pound better terms, with the good to firm ground a big plus for her. She looks hard to beat with so many question marks from horses in behind including Royal Brave, who finished a close third at Ayr yesterday.

1 ROYAL BRAVE – Course and distance winner who goes very well at this track and arrives here in good form for Rebecca Bastiman. He was last seen at Ayr when a close fourth and he remains on the same mark, which is only one pound above his last winning mark. Conditions will suit and Rowan Scott takes off a useful five pounds, so all signs point to a big run. He finished third at Ayr yesterday, running on strongly which is something to note.

2 PADDY POWER – Started off 2017 in brilliant form but since his win at Newmarket in May, he has been well beaten in three runs for Richard Fahey. He was last seen well beaten in the ‘Jump Jockeys’ Nunthorpe at York, always in the rear and never threatening. This is easier, but he remains on the same mark and Sammy Jo Bell’s three pound claim will need to make a drastic difference. Good to firm conditions will be fine and he’s hard to rule out completely, but others do make more appeal.

3 SILVANUS – Eleven year old veteran who for Paul Midgley who gained his eleventh career success when winning over course and distance eleven days ago. He came fast and late under Graham Lee to get up in the shadows of the post and as a result, he’s been raised three pounds. On his previous form he can easily overcome this mark and despite his age, he has to be firmly in the mix for the placings with conditions to suit.

4 ROCK OF AMERICA – Three year old whose sole win remains an all weather maiden on debut for David O’Meara, not showing much on his two turf runs. He was well beaten at Haydock when last seen, losing two places close home and far more is needed if he’s to threaten in a tougher race. Danny Tudhope takes the ride which is positive as he’s in good form, but others make more appeal on this occasion.

5 ECONOMIC CRISIS – Won this race last season off a five pound lower mark, but she’s been running well off higher marks of late and looks dangerous under Paul Mulerennan. She was last seen over course and distance when a close third to Silvanus, only beaten around a length and she meets that rival on three pound better terms. Conditions will suit and he looks tough to beat on this occasion with all factors in her favour.

6 BRONZE BEAU – Six of his twelve victories have come at Hamilton and he is yet to win from nine starts here for Kristin Stubbs. He is otherwise engaged on the 23rd at Beverley, which is interesting as he was narrowly denied when last seen at Hamilton two weeks ago. A soft lead looks very possible and he is one to consider under Shane Grey, though he does look vulnerable for win purposes off his current mark.

7 PEARL ACCLAIM – Three wins from 52 starts in his career so far which is hardly an appealing strike rate, beaten at odds of 4/6 in a seller on his final start for David O’Meara. He makes his debut for David Griffiths today and remains opposable with no headgear on for this assignment. He is on a career low mark, but others have more pressing claims and he would be a surprise winner on this occasion.

8 DAWOODI – Very inconsistent three year old for Linda Perratt who showed more on his latest start when fourth at Hamilton, around a length behind Bronze Beau. He remains on the same mark and has place possibilities once again under Andrew Mullen if improving on that display, though that is far from guaranteed as his record shows. He was also well beaten at Ayr behind Royal Brave when last seen, which further buries his chances.
