This is a Class 4 handicap raced over an extended mile, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: This is a tricky puzzle to solve and it looks wise to stick with the consistent MON BEAU VISAGE. David O’Meara’s runner has shown excellent consistency this season and he has only been raised a pound for a good placed effort last time out. He can get his head in front of Valley Of Rocks who is well-in on today’s terms although this is a much harder race and things won’t be as easy for him.
MON BEAU VISAGE – David O’Meara’s runner shoulders top-weight in this having been raised a pound for a good effort over a furlong shorter last time out. He’s been generally consistent this season with a win and a few placed efforts to his name and he need only run to the form he displayed last time out to be right there in the finish today. The yard have a decent 17% strike rate at Beverley and he commands plenty of respect in this.
PUMAFLOR – Second runner in this for David O’Meara but he looks to be the stable second string on jockey bookings. He makes his first start for the yard having run to a fair level for Richard Whitaker but he was comfortably held off this mark last time out. He would be dangerous if he settles better but he’s relatively inconsistent and others make a bit more appeal on today’s terms.
WORLDS HIS OYSTER – The first time visor didn’t improve John Quinn’s runner much last time out but it’s left on again today, now racing off a 2lb lower mark. He did win off a mark of 80 on his first start this year so he’s relatively well-treated although he has found a few too good of late and may just struggle again today. Best watched in this.
LORD REASON – John Butler’s runner has been upped 4lbs in the weights following a gritty short-head success at Epsom last time out. He made all that day and is likely to adopt similar tactics here although he’s not certain to get an easy lead like he did last time out and he may have been flattered having had the run of the race. More is needed off a career high mark and others are preferred.
MAKE ON MADAM – Les Eyre’s mare races off a career high mark today and arrives here on the back of a poor last place finish at Haydock earlier this month. That was a disappointing run having just been touched off by a neck over 7 1/2f in June but she clearly likes it around here so she would be dangerous to write off. The yard aren’t in the best of form though and others make more appeal at the weights.
BIG TIME DANCER – Couldn’t complete a treble of wins at Carlisle last time out but he looked to have been caught out by the Good to Soft going and he will appreciate the faster ground today. He races off the same mark of 67 which doesn’t look beyond him although he loses his 7lb claimer and he is ridden, interestingly, by Martin Lane today. Another that should go well today for a yard with an 18% strike rate at present.
VALLEY OF ROCKS – Steps up in grade today following a commanding success at Leicester earlier this month. He was well-supported that day having been sent off the 6/4 favourite and he will have conditions in his favour again today. He’s up 4lbs in the weights but he has a 3yo allowance in this which puts him on good terms with his older rivals. This is a significantly harder race though so this won’t be a procession now he seeks the double.
MONT ROYAL – Ollie Pears’ runner is the second 3yo in this but he is yet to score from 6 starts and needs to do more today. He took a big step forward to finish fourth, beaten a length at Thirsk in similar conditions to today’s and the extra furlong should suit him based on his stamina-filled pedigree. He’s another runner that is well-in with his older rivals but his maiden tag casts doubt over him in handicap company.
