This is a Class 4 handicap raced over a mile, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: There was a lot to like about ANGEL QUEST’S first run in handicap company and she’s only been raised 3lbs following that second place effort. That looks generous from the handicapper and Richard Hughes’ runner can take full advantage here at the expense of Blushing Rose. Sir Michael Stoute’s filly looks to be lingering on a useful mark but she lacks a turn of foot and will be suited by an extra couple of furlongs.
LADY PERIGNON – Drops back in grade today following a heavy defeat over C&D earlier this month. She’s only 2lbs higher than when she placed at Sandown at the end of last season and she’s sure to improve from her seasonal reappearance so there are reasons to believe she will do better today. Conditions look to be in her favour but she is wrong at the weights with a few of these as one of two 4yo’s in the field.
BLUSHING ROSE – Sir Michael Stoute’s filly was a slight disappointment last time out at Chelmsford, having been unable to quicken in the finish. She encountered a troubled trip that day and should fare better with a clear look at things today. Her pedigree is packed full of stamina and she looks sure to be stepped up in trip soon so it may pay to wait until she tackles further. That said, this is her third run of the season and she remains on a fair mark.
HIGH ON LOVE – Charlie Fellowes’ filly was highly-tried last season in Listed and Group company and she wasn’t disgraced on either start. She looked to need her seasonal reappearance at Sandown back in June and this looks slightly easier so there are reasons to be positive about her chances today although she has to convince that a mile is the right trip for her. A mark of 77 looks fair but others make just a bit more appeal in this.
CANBERRA CLIFFS – Finished second to a well-handicapped sort at Pontefract last week and she’s stepped up in grade on the back of that run. The return to a slightly better surface will help her although she’s more exposed than a few of her rivals and the drop back in trip doesn’t look like the most obvious move for this filly. Others make more appeal today on these terms.
ANGEL’S QUEST – Lightly-raced daughter of Dark Angel who makes her second start in handicap company today. She was only beaten a neck by the useful Ghadaayer at Newmarket last time out and a 3lb rise in the weights looks fair for what she achieved that day. She commands plenty of respect now making her third start of the season for a yard with a decent 15% strike rate at Windsor.
SAYEM – C&D winner who attempts to follow up that success off a 3lb higher mark today. This looks much more competitive than that race and she’s going to have to improve to come out on top having been well-beaten off just one pound higher earlier in the season. This trip and ground looks right for her and she’s hard to rule out but others could provide a bit more value in this.
DYNAMIC GIRL – The second of two 4yo’s in this race and Brendan Powell’s runner looks up against it on these terms. She’s the lowest-rated filly in the race and she has to concede plenty of weight to better rivals although she did win a handicap off this mark last season. She’s tried at a mile for the first time today but arrives here in no sort of form and others are preferred.
FIRE PALACE – Chasing her first success in handicap company following some less than impressive efforts in her two runs as a 3yo. She’s stepped back up in trip and the slightly softer ground should suit and she should be able to get competitive off this mark although she looks to be going backwards if anything. Could bounce back to form but the yard are without a winner from their last 10 runners.
FUNKY FOOTSTEPS – Finished 2 1/2 lengths behind Sayem over C&D last time out but she’s 5lbs better off with that runner today and she should be able to get closer. She likes some cut in the ground having won on debut on Soft over 6 furlongs and she’s taken a while to improve following that run having been tried at a mile on her last three starts. She’s slowly improving but this looks competitive and she may be best watched today.
