A field of nine go to post for the fifth race of the day at Newcastle on Tuesday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Morning Suit won easily off this mark at Brighton eight days ago and should go well again but he’ll need to improve if he’s to be beating our selection OMRAN for Marco Botti and Andrea Atzeni. Progressive in three runs for the yard, his latest forth at Newbury on handicap debut has worked out very well and only being raised a pound for it seems incredibly lenient, so he should take a huge amount of beating under Andrea Atzeni with conditions likely to be fine. Custard The Dragon and Twin Appeal are likely for the placings.

1 TWIN APPEAL – Won in Class 3 company three starts ago at Musselburgh at this trip, winning comfortably and although he has been well beaten the last twice, he was upped in class so he does have an excuse. He was last seen finishing seventh in a competitive Class 2 event which was far from a disgrace and he’s been lowered a pound as a result, which means he’s only 3lb above his last winning mark. A return to this C&D will be no problem and with Connor Murtagh claiming a very useful 7lb, his claims are as clear as day.

2 LOYALTY – Ten year old veteran who seems to be better at the mile trip, unable to land a blow at the finish on his last two races over the seven furlong trip at Chelmsford. He does drop down in trip for this assignment which is likely to help, but he is yet to make much of an impact on tapeta surfaces and he’s likely to need help from the handicapper if he’s to be going in again for Derek Shaw. Likely place claims in a strongly run race but others make more appeal for win purposes.

3 MAJDOOL – Won four starts ago at Kempton in a game performance off a pound lower, though he has certainly lost his way the last thrice on turf, signing off from the Roger Varian yard when tailed off at Pontefract. After 322 days off he now makes his stable debut for the in form Noel Wilson yard and returns to the all weather which does make him very interesting, especially as he does have the potential to go well fresh. The in form Graham Lee takes the ride and he’s not one to underestimate, with market support to be noted.

4 CUSTARD THE DRAGON – Has been on fire this winter for John Mackie at Southwell, winning five times at that venue out of ten starts at all venues since returning this season. He was once again game and all heart when winning at Southwell over the seven furlong trip in April, though a 5lb rise and a return to tapeta could make things tougher. That said, the yard are in great form and his regular rider Ben Curtis is also in good form, so a bold follow up bid isn’t out of the question. Another to consider.

5 INAAM – Three wins from six starts here for Richard Fahey and he has a good record overall on the all weather, taking a C&D win three starts ago off a 3lb lower mark back in March. He has performed admirably the last twice, last seen seen finishing a close forth at Ayr in May off a pound higher mark and another bold showing has to be expected as he returns to his favoured all weather under Paul Hanagan. Likely player and has to be respected as he bids for a sixth career win on the all weather.

6 YOUNG JOHN – Another for Richard Fahey who won over C&D back in November off a pound higher mark, though he has been thoroughly disappointing since then and he has been unable to reach the frame in five starts since then. He was last seen running no sort of race when well beaten over C&D and he needs a major bounce back if he’s to be threatening some very much in form rivals. Cannot be fully ruled out but he’s certainly a risky one to back and others seem likelier candidates on this occasion.

7 OMRAN – Three year old for Marco Botti who has his second handicap run three very promising and progressive runs this season, finishing second on debut at Doncaster in November, showing huge amounts of promise. He improved on that run dramatically to win on the all weather at Chelmsford a month later, running away with the maiden contest by six lengths. He was last seen in late April when forth at Newbury on handicap debut in a race where the form has been well advertised, so if taking to the tapeta on his first try off only a pound higher mark, he looks the likely winner under Andrea Atzeni.

8 AMOOD – C&D winner who has been well beaten on his last four starts since taking victory off a pound lower mark than today’s, last seen never being cited at Wetherby eight days ago for Simon West. He remains on the same mark and although the switch back to the all weather should help, he remains very much opposable in a hot looking race despite Jason Hart retaining the ride. Others make far more appeal.

9 MORNING SUIT – Three year old for Mark Johnston who has won his last two starts for connections, running out a comfortably winner at Lingfield over the mile before winning off today’s mark at Brighton eight days ago, clearly with something in hand. He is just as effective here at Newcastle and he has obvious claims once again, especially as he is tactically versatile and can lead or take one. Joe Fanning takes over the ride and although this race is tougher than the last twice, he should be going close.
