IN SUMMARY: Many of these have questions marks about them which makes it all the more easy to side with Andrew Balding’s FAIR COP, who makes her handicap debut off a lenient mark under David Probert. She made all when dominating a maiden field over the five furlong trip here back in May and she looks more than likely to do the same again in this. Conditions are to suit and a step up in trip looks in her favour, so she should be tough to beat with Open Wide looking her only sure fire challenger. That rival was a clear second over the five furlong trip here when last seen and if backing that up under Jim Crowley, he should be destined for second place with Parnassian far from guaranteed to back up his latest second at Pontefract.

1 VOLATILE – James Tate three year old who hasn’t progressed since a good third at Lingfield three starts ago in Listed company, well beaten at both Newcastle (conditions company) and Goodwood (handicap company) on his latest two starts for connections. This drop back to six furlongs should help and this is easier than his latest assignment, but he does have something to prove on the grass as his best runs have come on the all weather. Others make more appeal this time around.

2 PARNASSIAN – Eased when well beaten at York on his penultimate start but left that run well behind when second to an improving commodity at Pontefract two weeks ago who went on to win a big field handicap at York subsequently. He remains on the same mark and on his all weather form he is well treated, so a big run would be no surprise from this three year old son of Elzaam. In form Ben Curtis takes the ride and conditions will suit, but he needs to prove he can back that effort up and that’s not necessarily guaranteed. Place claims at the very best.

3 LETMESTOPYOUTHERE – Back onto his last winning mark but that is only due to two poor performances the last twice, well beaten at both Chester and Haydock when returned to the turf. Lots to prove on that basis and although the return to six furlongs should suit, he’ll need to be back to his best in a tough looking race for David Evans. Good to firm ground is another question mark and he’s likely best watched.

4 SAYESSE – Two pounds lower than when third three starts ago at Chester in a similar race but his form has dipped the last twice, well beaten at York on his latest start and he’s another who needs to prove himself. These conditions will suit him and the Mick Channon team are in good form, so there are undoubtedly positives, but there are far more solid options in the race and he’s down the list on this occasion.

5 OPEN WIDE – Got back on track when third at Haydock on his penultimate start and backed up that effort with a good second here when last seen, with the front two pulling three lengths clear of the remainder. He is up three pounds as a result but he remains lightly raced and improvement would be no surprise as the Amanda Perrett yard are in good form and Jim Crowley takes the ride. Likely biggest danger to the selection with conditions to suit.

6 FAIR COP – Daughter of Exceed And Excel who has a good sprinting pedigree and took her form to a new level when making all here over the five furlong trip in maiden company when last seen, keeping on strongly and never looking likely to be collared. She makes her handicap debut off a mark of 82 which looks lenient as she has more improvement left in the tank and a return to firmer ground should be a big positive. The Andrew Balding yard remains in good form and she’s the one to beat under David Probert.
