IN SUMMARY: There is little between both Akavit and Night Generation and they are likely to be dangerous but they’ll struggle to live with Alan King’s MCCOOLS GOLD. He got back on track for this yard when second at Nottingham over this trip twenty-one days ago, keeping on well behind a well handicapped horse. He is only a pound higher here and he remains progressive with only nine runs under his belt, so he should take all the beating under Martin Harley.

1 RULER OF THE NILE – Five year old for Robert Stephens who ran a good race when last seen on the all weather to finish second at Wolverhampton in April, keeping on strongly at this distance. He was well held in two subsequent hurdling runs but he should be happier back in this discipline off a mark of 72, though he certainly isn’t the most consistent and a good run cannot be guaranteed by any stretch. Possible place contender at his best but others look likelier for win purposes.

2 DAGHASH – Lightly raced in 2016 for Stuart Kittow who shaped reasonably well at Nottingham on his return this season, finishing sixth after being keen early on. A return to this trip should suit on previous efforts and he’s now down to a mark of 71  which is two pounds below his last winning mark, with conditions to suit and Kieran Shoemark taking off a valuable three pounds. Likely contender and has to be respected.

3 BAMAKO DU CHATELET – Five time winner who was a good second on his penultimate start at Chelmsford  when coming home strongly, subsequently not suited by a slow pace over a shorter trip here forty days ago. A mark of 71 is not beyond him at his best and a step up in trip will help him show his best, as he’s proven he stays this far in the past including over C&D. James Doyle takes the ride for the in form Ian Williams team and he has to be respected.

4 AKAVIT – Five year old for Ed de Giles who won three starts ago at Chepstow over this distance and he has run two solid races since over the same two mile distance off higher marks, finishing a close second of this mark at Ripon when last seen. Silvestre de Sousa takes over the ride which could be a statement of intent and these conditions will suit, so he has to be considered with no reason why he shouldn’t go well again.

5 BRIDEY’S LETTUCE – Has hit the frame on two of his three starts since joining the John Best yard, finishing second at Chelmsford on his penultimate start when coming home with a rattle. He was hampered on his latest start at Newbury and he is only a pound higher this time, though he isn’t a guaranteed stayer at this trip and that has to be of concern. Kieran Fox takes the ride and he is a possible place contender if staying, but he’s likely vulnerable to a strong stayer.

6 MCCOOLS GOLD – Won three starts ago at Bath when with the Eve Johnson Houghton yard but made a disappointing debut for Alan King when only seventh at Chelmsford inApril, weakening tamely when headed. He did however get back on track when last seen to finish second at Nottingham to the well backed Coeur De Lion and he is only a pound higher here with Martin Harley retaining the ride. He still remains with potential for better after only nine starts and should have too much for these today with conditions to suit.

7 DANGLYDONTASK – Managed to edge out Akavit when last seen at Bath in April, keeping on strongly to head that rival in the final strides and he’s up four pounds as a result. There is unlikely to be much between them and Luke Morris retaining the ride is an obvious plus, though looking at his previous runs he isn’t one to rely on heavily as he can be inconsistent. He should be fitting the frame if in the same form though and cannot be dismissed.

8 NIGHT GENERATION – Won on his latest start on the flat on the all weather here in May, keeping on stoutly to win going away and as a result he’s 3lb higher here. He wasn’t disgraced over hurdles subsequently when third at Fontwell and a return to turf on the falt shouldn’t be an issue. He did however struggled off this mark back in January which tempers enthusiasm and there would be a suspicion he could be vulnerable now back up in the weights. The yard are in form though and Dane O’Neill takes the ride so he couldn’t be dismissed for the placings.
