This is a Class 5 maiden over 1m 2f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: There could be some useful sorts in this with time and STRONG BELIEF is taken to make a winning racecourse debut. Charlie Appleby is in fine form of late and his 180,000GNS son of Cape Cross should love the trip and ground on racecourse debut and he can come out on top. The beautifully bred Circulation can give him most to think about following a nice debut at Salisbury with a 5lb allowance today.
FORMATIVE – Finished last of nine, beaten 100 lengths on debut and it’s virtually impossible to make a case for Noel Wilson’s runner in this. He’s dropped right down in trip and switched to the flat which should be fine based on his pedigree although he has to give plenty of weight away to some better sorts and the first-time tongue tie is unlikely to bring about much improvement. Best watched.
RIP N ROAR – Lightly-raced 5yo who makes just his third career start today. He made his debut at Nottingham in April 2015 and he was off the track for two years before reappearing at Lingfield in May where he finished ninth of ten, beaten 34 lengths. He will need to take a big step up in form today to get involved here and whilst he should improve for a run, he must give weight away in this.
SIR RUNS A LOT – Took a step backwards on his seasonal reappearance at Thirsk last month, finishing seventh of nine beaten 16 lengths. He’s stepped up in trip today which will certainly help this son of Sir Percy although he has plenty to find on form with a few of his rivals and it would be a surprise to see him win this. He’ll do better in handicaps and is best watched today for a yard with one winner from their last 15 runners.
KILOWATT – Drops back down in trip today following a 1 1/2 length defeat in a Thirsk maiden last month. He ran into one at Ripon in April when beaten 5 lengths by Daawy and the handicapper has allotted him a rating of 76 which looks fair although connections have elected to keep him in maiden company today. He shouldn’t be far away but he’s another that may be better off in handicaps later in the season.
MARATHA – Has two second placed efforts to his name and he improved upon his debut to finish second of ten at Nottingham last month. He was well-supported that day and connections will be hopeful this 90,000GNS purchase can improve again and break his maiden at the third attempt on slightly better ground. Simon Crisford has been in excellent form of late with a 42% strike rate in the past fortnight.
MOUNT ROCK – Hasn’t been far away in two low grade maidens and he looks just the sort to improve for the switch to handicaps later in the season. He cost 11,000GNS as a foal and should turn out to be a moderate enough type but the Mick Easterby yard is without a winner from his last 35 runners and he’s tricky to fancy here with some much nicer sorts against him. Best watched.
NORTHWEST FRONTIER – Gelded son of Galileo making his racecourse debut today. His dam won as a 2yo over 6 furlongs so he’s got an interesting combination of speed and stamina and this trip looks far enough on debut. Richard Fahey can get one ready for a maiden and he’s operating at a 11% strike rate at present and he’s worth close attention in the betting today.
STRONG BELIEF – Cost 180,000GNS as a yearling and he’s a gelded son of Cape Cross so he should be suited to this trip and the forecast Good ground. His dam ran once in her career and finished thirteenth of fourteen in a Dundalk maiden over 7 furlongs but she had stamina in her profile so today’s conditions should be perfect. The yard has been in good form of late with 5 winners from their last 21 runners so there’s plenty to like about him in this.
CIRCULATION – Interesting filly that is a half-sister to the excellent Twice Over. She was well-supported on debut and was just touched off having been hampered in the run and should arguably have won on her debut so there’s every chance she can go one better today kept over this trip. She has a 5lb allowance as one of two fillies’ in the race and this yard have been flying of late with a 29% strike rate in the past fortnight.
NATHALIE – Was quite green on debut at Beverley on debut and she will have learnt plenty from that having kept on in the finish. She’s a daughter of Nathaniel and this trip and ground should be ideal and better is expected today with that run under her belt although she does have something to find on form based on her fourth placed effort last time out. She’s one to watch in the betting.
