6.15pm Southwell Tips & Betting Preview 18/05/2016

IN SUMMARY: Somchine likes this track and deserves credit for some for some good efforts this spring but this can go to SUCH A LEGEND (5/2), who is still seeking his first win over fences but stayed on well for second on ground that was probably too fast for him at Exeter a fortnight ago and, with rain forecast, is expected to be better suited by conditions here. Trickaway and Dursey Sound both have the raw ability to pose a threat but the former ruined his chance by taking a fierce hold on his latest outing and the latter has become wildly inconsistent, so is also a risky option

1 High Ron – Triple course winner who gained a wide-margin success at Uttoxeter (3m, soft) when last seen in July; might have been the only horse to handled the conditions in that gruelling event, though; returns to action on a very touch mark and is unlikely to be seen to best effect over today’s trip.

2 Such A Legend – 0-6 over fences but has run some decent races in this sphere, most recently when staying-on second at Exeter (2m3f, good to firm) a fortnight ago; might have found the ground a bit too lively there and won’t mind if the forecast rain arrives here; can make his presence felt.

3 Trickaway – Won consecutive starts over fences in late 2014 and finished second off today’s mark in February 2015 but has spoiled his chance by refusing to settle on last couple of outings, the more recent after one-year absence at Chepstow last month; might be more relaxed now he has that run under his belt but comes with risks attached.

4 Dursey Sound – Can’t be ruled out, given he won off today’s mark at Warwick (3m1f, good) in September and landed a quite valuable prize over this C&D in 2014 but has become very inconsistent and comes here after failing to complete his last three races; tongue-tie fitted today.

5 Cody Wyoming – Returned to form and made all for wide-margin success at Newton Abbot (2m5f, soft) last month; remains feasibly treated on best form but that race was uncompetitive and he may not have things all his own way here.

6 Somchine – Won a small-field event over 2m here last year and returned to form with good effort when clear second to a subsequent winner over C&D in March; also placed on last couple of outings and seems very versatile ground-wise; expected to be in the thick of things.

7 Drumlang – Went close off lower hurdles mark on stable debut in October but was below that form on next outing and, following break, was beaten out of sight back over fences last month; won’t be aided by the forecast rain and has too much to prove at present.

myracing Forecast Prices: 9/4 Such A Legend, 7/2 Somchine, 9/2 Cody Wyoming, 11/2 Trickaway, 6/1 Dursey Sound, 10/1 HIgh Ron, 20/1 Drumlang
