4.15pm Newmarket Tips & Betting Preview 22/09/2016

Our betting tips for the 2m Listed race on Thursday’s Newmarket card focus on a filly bidding to bounce back from a disappointing performance. Read on for the full race preview.

IN SUMMARY: SEAMOUR is certainly worth persevering with at this level, having run to a very useful level in some hot handicaps this season and with She Is No Lady (NR) now a non runner, the door looks open for Brian Ellison’s charge to pick up his first Listed triumph. The Godolphin runner, Sir Fever, has, by some way, the highest BHA rating, but that is a legacy from his AW exploits in Uruguay in 2014 and he’s very difficult to weight up on his first start since March 2015. Fun Mac, Forever Popular and Yorkidding are others with possibilities in an open race.

1 Fun Mac – Thorough stayer who was placed in the Group 1 Prix Du Cadron at Longchamp (2m4f, good) just under a year ago; hasn’t been firing on all cylinders this season but appreciated a drop in class when winning Salisbury conditions race (1m6f, good to soft) this month and enters calculations.

2 Rideonastar – Comfortably won a Class 3 handicap at Salisbury (1m6f, good to soft) in May but disappointed on ground that ought to have suited when last in action and faces a very tough assignment in this grade.

3 Seamour – Has come up short in two Listed races this season but was an excellent second in the Northumberland Plate (2m, AW) in June and ran just as well when filling same position in Doncaster handicap (1m6f, good; first-time cheekpieces) a fortnight ago; big player if matching that form here.

4 Sir Fever – Dominated the middle-distance scene on artificial surfaces in Uruguay in 2014 but been absent since a disappointing effort over 9.5f on dirt in Dubai in March 2015 and is yet to race beyond 1m4f; fitted with first-time cheekpieces for British debut and it’s hard to predict how he’ll fare.

5 Forever Popular – Displayed improvement to win Listed race in first-time cheekpieces on the July course here (1m4f, good to firm) in July and ran about as well as could have been expected when fourth in the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster (1m6f, good) this month; in this mix if suited by today’s trip.

6 Justice Belle – Placed in very valuable handicap here (1m4f, good to soft) just under a year ago and made very encouraging return from long absence when staying-on fifth at Haydock (1m6f, soft) this month; certainly looks ready for a crack at 2m but a bit more is needed to make her mark at this level.

7 She Is No Lady (NR) – Flopped when favourite for the Ebor at York last month but had looked progressive beforehand, most notably when short-head second in Listed company at Sandown (2m, soft); will be fine on the faster ground here; no surprise if she quickly gets back on track.

8 Yorkidding – Has won three good-quality handicaps this season, the latest on the July course here (1m5f, good to firm) last month; also ran well when third in a German Listed race 19 days ago and is unexposed over 2m; has a part to play.

9 Goldmember – Created good impression when winning Thirsk maiden (1m4f, good to firm) in May, his third start, and just about held his own in Group 3 company on next two outings (1m5f/1m4f); disappointed in a Goodwood Listed race last time, though, and has a point to prove on first crack at 2m.

10 Great And Small – Won her maiden at Chester (1m4f, good) in July, her third start, and also ran well when second in Class 3 handicap on the July course here (1m5f, good to firm) last month; it’s unlikely we’ve seen the best of her, but she needs to improve quickly to land a blow in this.

myracing Forecast Prices: 7/2 She Is No Lady, 9/2 Seamour, 11/2 Forever Popular, 6/1 Fun Mac, Sir Fever, 7/1 Yorkidding, 10/1 Justice Belle, Goldmember, 20/1 Great And Small, 50/1 Rideonastar
