2.20pm Southwell Tips & Betting Preview 06/12/2016

As typical for Southwell, this Class 5 handicap is very hard to deduce and is very competitve. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Stun Gun demands respect after his latest win in Class 6 company, but his record when into Class 5 tempers enthusiasm and the vote is handed to THE LYNCH MAN. A lightly raced 3yo, he’s back on his last winning mark and there is reason to believe that the Fibresand will suit. With time on his side he may well be able to improve past these to land this prize.

1 GOLD FLASH – Good effort again at higher odds latest when a 14/1 2nd at Chelmsford a few weeks ago (7f, Standard). Record stands at 1-21, that winning coming on debut and is very much use to being the bridesmaid at this point after placing 8 times thus far in his career, which tempers enthusiasm somewhat but is off the same mark today.

2 GATILLO – Only thrice raced and showed promise on his 2nd run at Windsor in the Summer when 4th of 12 (1m, Soft). Other two efforts have been average to poor and hasn’t been seen since July, so probably best watched on handicap debut.

3 FIRST WHEAT – Decent enough form in England this year and finished 6th in a French Claimer a few weeks ago at Fontainbleau. Needs to show improvement on the All Weather to feature in this.

4 STUN GUN – 6-43 and that win came when winning comfortably over C&D latest. Penalised and up in Class today and previous visits to Class 5 haven’t been fruitful, but if building on that win he should have Each Way claims in a weak looking race.

5 ANTON CHIGURH – Not been thriving recently and latest effort at Wolverhampton when keen and weakening very tamely over the extended mile was the poorest this year. Latest win however came over C&D back in April but makes limited appeal in his current mood.

6 PICK A LITTLE – Ran well enough the last twice without really threatening, latest when 7th of 11 over 7 at Wolverhampton when not as far off as the result suggests. Needs to improve to feature but has Each Way Claims as not many of these can boast decent form coming into the race.

7 OUR BOY JACK – Posted two blanks lately, at Chelmsford over a mile and Wolverhampton over 7f. Has never placed on All Weather and all wins have come on the turf, so probably best watched today as he’s been in no such form since his latest win over shorter at Beverley back in August (7f, Good to Soft).

8 THE LYNCH MAN – Lightly raced 3yo who hasn’t been disgraced of late and is back on his last winning mark which came on slow ground at Ayr (8f, Good to Soft). There is reason to believe the All Weather should suit and should make a bold bid today.

9 MARIA’S CHOICE – Been racing over much further of late, finishing runner up at 1m4f at Lingfield and this drop back isn’t assured to suit these days. Finished last over C&D in February and pedigree also suggests this drop back in trip won’t suit, so best left alone today.

10 AFRICAN SHOWGIRL – Has lots to prove back on Fibresand after some very average efforts of late and makes her debut today for the Ivan Furtado yard. Doesn’t make much appeal.

11 BEST TAMAYUZ – Didn’t really stay the trip when 4th of 11 here last month (1m4f, Standard) and drops back in trip today. He should be better suited by the mile and has placed previously over C&D so needs a market check, has Each Way claims.

12 GENERAL TUFTO – Won this race back in 2009 and was a surprising 33/1 3rd here over C&D last month. That however his best run for a very, very long time and unlikely to back that up today.

myracing Forecast Prices: 2/1 Stun Gun, 4/1 Gold Flash, 4/1 Best Tamayuz, 6/1 Anton Chigurh, 7/1 Gatillo, 15/2 Maria’s Choice, 15/2 The Lynch Man, 10/1 First Wheat, 12/1 Pick A Little, 16/1 Our Boy Jack, 18/1 African Showgirl, 33/1 General Tufto
