IN SUMMARY: The form of Westerland‘s latest win has taken some knocks but he shapes as though he’ll stay this trip and his attitude will stand him in good stead. The problem for him is the fact that KEW GARDENS‘ form is above and beyond his and any other horses in this field. He has run well over the mile the last twice in Group 3 and Group 2 races respectively, with this son of Galileo almost certain to improve for this step up in distance. If even matching the level of his two previous runs, he’s not going to be for catching here.
ALBISHR – Ran his best race when second in a Listed race at Salisbury in August, beaten by a nose but he was brushed aside when last seen over seven furlongs. Has his stamina to prove in a tough race and is likely to fall short.
DEE EX BEE – Showed a brilliant attitude to knuckle down and score at Epsom on his latest start, proving that a step up in distance would almost certainly suit him. He holds each way claims but would want rain as he’s never raced on ‘good’ ground.
DUBAI EMPIRE – Off the mark in a maiden at Musselburgh, his third racecourse start. Step up in trip will suit massively on pedigree but he needs sizeable improvement and shouldn’t be good enough here.
GRAFFITI MASTER – Cost 575,000gns and has a brilliant pedigree, off the mark at the second attempt with a facile success at Kempton. Plenty to find on the figures but he’s completely unexposed and shouldn’t be far away for John Gosden.
KEW GARDENS – Improving at a rapid rate, second in a Group 3 two starts ago before a close fourth in Group 2 company, both runs over the mile. As a son of Galileo he will improve hugely for this step up in distance and he shouldn’t be for catching here as he sets a daunting standard.
RASTRELLI – Won his latest two starts for Charlie Appleby, winning a Nursery comfortably despite hanging. Clearly still learning but needs this step up in distance from the mile to take his form to a new dimension. One of the likelier candidates for second place.
WESTERLAND – Most experienced runner in the field, battling on gamely to win at Doncaster by a short-head. That form has taken some sizeable knocks but he shapes as though he’ll stay this new trip and with such a good pedigree, he’s the main danger to the selection.
