Benbatl in unknown waters

The feature race of the day is the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood and the field is headlined by three-time Group 1 winner Benbatl. Last seen finishing third to Maximum Security in the Saudi Cup, he’s the class of this field. That being said, his record on softer ground is poor. He’s yet to win on ground worse than good and that has to be a worry, despite being eight pounds clear on ratings.

Subjectivist and Cabaletta duel in the March

Victory for either Cabaletta or Subjectivist in the March Stakes could enhance claims for a St Leger tilt. Roger Varian’s Cabaletta has steadily progressed this term and bumped into Enbihaar over course and distance last time. That was a very solid run and she’s thoroughly unexposed as a stayer.

Subjectivist almost stole the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood with an enterprising front-running ride and with just three rivals with no pace tendencies, there is a very good chance that he never sees another rival with no pressure on the front-end.

Horse To Watch

Winning this race in 2019, Duke Of Hazzard‘s Goodwood record reads 1112. He clearly loves the Sussex Downs and he’s run well on softer ground in the past. There’s a huge amount to like about his chances of a repeat in the Celebration Mile Stakes.

Trainer to Watch

Andrew Balding is having a fruitful season at Windsor, with a 29% strike-rate from 28 total runners. That equates to a £9.91 profit to level stakes and Fox Chairman has standout claims in the Winter Hill Stakes. The rain has arrived in time for him and he was a runner-up at this level at Royal Ascot last year. He posted a career-best at York on his latest outing and dropped to this level, he’s going to be difficult to beat.
