The horse in question is the Mike Murphy-trained Enlightenment, a daughter of up-and-coming sire Mehmas. She cost £60,000 as a two-year-old and her Dam was a French All-Weather winner out of a furlong two-year-old winning half-sister to Group 3 scorer Lesson In Humility.

Her pedigree is all speed and she made her debut over seven furlongs at Kempton, where she was sent off 100-1. Slowly away, she was always towards the rear and made no ground, finishing ninth of 14 runners. That was disappointing, but connections evidently think there is sizeable improvement under the hood.

Given her pedigree, you certainly couldn’t discount that, and dropping back to six furlongs should help matters. She’ll have learned plenty from that opening introduction and this certainly isn’t a strong novice contest. She goes against solely her same sex, which is another help, and she’ll be ridden by the in-form Jack Mitchell.

A middling draw in stall six gives Mitchell plenty of options, but given the way she’s been backed, it’d be no surprise to see her ridden more handily on this occasion. With three-year-old runners, it’s always hard to judge how much progress is on the cards, but given the volatility of the market, she needs plenty of close attention.
