Who are the jockeys to follow at Royal Ascot?

Royal Ascot 2018 Day 3

It will be far from a typical Royal Ascot again this year for all we will have some spectators through the gates. Some jockeys have proven themselves as reliable winners at the royal meeting and come to life there. Here are a few riders to keep onside with the five-day meeting in mind.

Jim Crowley

In the last five years, Crowley only has a 10 per cent strike-rate at Ascot. However, in 2020 he was the top jockey at the track yielding a 23 per cent return with 11 winners from 47 rides. He is a two-time winner of the Nunthorpe, winning it in 2011 on Prohibit and 2020 on the rocket Battaash. Crowley has a strong potential book of rides – Battaash in the King’s Stand and Mostahdaf in the St James’s Palace the main two.

Frankie Dettori

Dettori is synonymous with Royal Ascot, and we can all remember his incredible four-timer on the Thursday of the 2019 royal meeting. He had a yield of 20 per cent at the track in 2020 but has an incredible 24 per cent strike-rate at Ascot in the last five years. Dettori has a date with destiny aboard Stradivarius in the Ascot Gold Cup while he is also booked to ride odds-on shot Palace Pier in the Queen Anne so he could have a very good week.

Ryan Moore

Last but not least, it would be madness if we did not mention Moore. He is a jockey for the big occasion and will have a great book of rides. Moore will have the choice between Sangarius and Solid Stone in the Wolferton, and is booked to ride either M C Muldoon or Saldier for Willie Mullins in the Copper Horse Handicap. He will also ride in all of the top races for Ballydoyle so it could be a mega week for the man.
