Irish Guineas weekend

Aidan O’Brien holds all the aces for the upcoming Irish Guineas weekend at the Curragh. Heading the way for the Irish 2,000 Guineas is Gstaad who is the 4/11 favourite to get the job done after his second in the English equivalent. He certainly deserves his place at the head of the market but he has finished runner-up in four of his five Group 1s to date so there may be each-way value to be had.

In the Irish 1,000 Guineas, O’Brien’s Precise heads the market at 7/4 with stablemate True Love not far behind at 2/1. The former was sent off favourite for the English version but was beaten a few lengths by True Love on the day, so it will be fascinating to see which of them Ryan Moore will choose if they both take their chance.

Harry Derham unbeaten at Hexham this season

Harry Derham is a perfect two from two at Hexham so far this season and his sole runner on the card is Katie’s Melody in the 3m handicap chase (7.20). A bumper scorer who has hit the frame three times over timber, she won her sole point start and can improve now tackling larger obstacles for the first time.

Paul Midgley runner worth a market check at Nottingham

Paul Midgley is 2-3 at Nottingham this year and Masterclass (4.55) is worth a look in the 5f handicap. He won this race last year off a 3lb higher mark and may well have been laid out for this.

Sam Coen a jockey to watch at Cork

Sam Coen is 2-3 at Cork this season and he will ride two outsiders at the venue on Tuesday in the shape of Walls Cross (7.42) and Seti (8.12). Why not stick them into a small each-way double for some fun.
