Trainer with 50% strike-rate at Newton Abbot this season aims for 17-1 double

Monday’s racing comes from five venues, a strong start to the week. Newton Abbot, Hamilton, Roscommon and Bath are the afternoon meetings, before Newcastle takes over for an evening on the All-Weather. We’ll have horse racing tips for all of them, including a pair of Lucky 15 tips.

Milton Harris has enjoyed a very strong season at Newton Abbot, with four winners from eight runners. That 50% strike-rate has equated to a profit of £7.95 and recently, his string have been in superlative form, with four winners from 12 runners in the last two weeks. He has two very strong chances on Monday and the double pays 17-1, find all the details below!

2.05 Newton Abbot – Bryan And Ilva Westcott Memorial Maiden Hurdle

It’s just the three runners in this maiden hurdle but Bari Breeze has an excellent chance under the in-form Paddy Brennan. Showing promise on his opening two bumper starts, he broke through at Newton Abbot last week, scoring with authority in a small field event.

He should have plenty more to offer now he goes hurdling, especially upped to the 2m 5f distance. Doing all his best work late in his Borris House point run back in December 2019, he clearly has the stamina and the improvement for this trip should be sizeable.

He does have something to find with Fifrelet on bumper form, but it’s not an unsurmountable amount and that rival is far from a guaranteed stayer over this new trip.

3.10 Newton Abbot – Racing Partnership Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

Perhaps his biggest chance of the day is Achy Breaky Heart, a seven-year-old who scored over fences at Newton Abbot back in July. Two subsequent hurdling starts weren’t as bad as the bare results suggest, especially as they were over shorter trips of 2m 5f and 2m 7f.

Back up in trip at Newton Abbot last time, she went very close over fences off a mark of 82. She clearly loves it here and returns to hurdling off a four-pound lower rating, which is an obvious positive. A return to the 3m 2f distance should bring out the best in her and at 6-1, she does look overpriced.
