Trainer who has won with four of his last five runners has sole Sunday entry

Sunday’s racing comes from four venues, as the week ends in style. The feature meeting is the Curragh, which hosts a card headlined by the Irish Cesarewitch. There’s also the small matter of two Listed races, the Staffordstown Stud and Testimonial Stakes. The rest of the racing comes from Newton Abbot, Limerick and Goodwood.

We’ll have horse racing tips from all four, but this article will be focusing on the strong recent form of Patrick Chamings. The Hampshire-based trainer has won with four of his last five runners and with two strong chances on Saturday night, that statistic could be even more impressive by Sunday.

Nevertheless, the fact he sends just one runner to Goodwood on Sunday has to be of strong interest. The runner in question looks to have very strong claims and you can find all the details below.

2.55 Goodwood – Great Sussex Way Handicap

That sole Sunday entry is Spanish Star, a six-year-old who arrives in superb form. He has a modest strike rate of 4/48, but from 10 runs in 2021, his form figures read 3322231643. He’s a model of consistency and should be to the fore once again.

That most recent victory came at Newbury, where he won with plenty in hand over the seven-furlong distance. He’s fully effective as a sprinter, however, and proved so once again when third at Salisbury on his most recent start. He was a shade unlucky that day, failing to secure a clear run in the final three furlongs.

That Salisbury run suggested he still had more to offer in handicaps and the fact his mark has been left unchanged is a blessing. Ground versatile, he’ll have no problem on the softer surface, and David Probert, who knows him well, is back in the saddle. With a good pace to aim at over this trip, he can power home late on.
