‘This is his second home’ – Dettori at Newmarket for just one ride on Wednesday

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori at York on day one of the Dante Meeting

There are few jockeys in the weighing room with more experience of riding Newmarket than Frankie Dettori. The locally-based veteran has ridden there for many a year. Newmarket’s Rowley Mile is like a second home at this point. With this in mind, it could be significant that he has just one ride there on Wednesday and it’s at the head of the market at time of writing. His sole ride is trained by regular boss John Gosden and they will be looking to get another winner on the board before the season comes to an end at HQ.

3.35 Newmarket

One World (3-1, William Hill) has already won twice so far this season. This marks his third attempt in handicap company and there’s a significant prize pot of £40,000 on offer. A son of Sea The Stars, he’s an experienced juvenile with five starts to his name. These runs have given him experience of novice, stakes and handicap races which’ll stand him in good stead.

He made a winning start to his career at Haydock in June. It was too much too soon when disappointing in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot ten days later. Two respectable second-place finishes followed in handicaps at Newmarket and Kempton. This includes a defeat at the hands of One Nation who re-opposes here. One World is 6lb better off with that rival this time around.

Confidence will be high having returned to winning ways at Newcastle last time, beating Forceful Speed who also re-opposes. That was his first start after being gelded which has presumably had the desired effect. The step up to 1m2f obviously suited him well which stands out at a stiff track like Newcastle. It seems likely that there’s more to come over this trip and his current rating of 85 certainly doesn’t look beyond him.
