Royal Ascot will soon be upon us and the five-day summer extravaganza kicks off on Tuesday. Now’s a good time to assess the meeting as a whole, so Liam Bramall has picked out his Nap, Next Best and a juicy 20/1 outsider to follow.
The Nap is a very promising Aidan O’Brien juvenile that has made a very good impression so far and he looks ready to contest races at Group level. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing and we’ll provide selections for every race at Ascot.
Charles Darwin (2/1, bet365) has passed the eye test with flying colours in his last two starts. This colt looks special and he’s ready for the step up to Group level races. Aidan O’Brien’s juvenile needed the experience when fourth on debut and has blown his rivals away in two subsequent starts. He’s set to line up in the Norfolk Stakes on Thursday and it will take a good one to beat him.
Exactly (5/1, bet365) was a very unlucky fourth in the French Guineas and for all the debate about the first two, it was her her lost out the most. She lost plenty of momentum after being squeezed out and deserved to finish better than fourth. This probably isn’t a vintage renewal of the Coronation Stakes and Aidan O’Brien’s filly looks like the value play.
Bucanero Fuerte (20/1, betfred) won a 6f Group 1 as a juvenile but his recent form suggests he could be better over the minimum trip. Adrian Murray’s colt was a respectable seventh in a Group 1 over 5f last season and is likely to have strengthened up over the winter. It was a very good performance from him in a Listed contest at Naas on his first start of the season and he could surprise a few.
