The bookies dread this Mullins/Moore double on Day 1 of Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot has finally arrived and it kicks off with a cracking Day 1 card on Tuesday. There’s plenty of international interest but as per usual, Willie Mullins draws the eye. He’s set to have four runners across two races and the great Ryan Moore has been booked for two of them.

That sounds like a dangerous combination and one that the bookies will be dreading. With that in mind, we’ve combined both horses into a double that could be worth a play. We’re providing free tips for every race at Royal Ascot this week and we’ve been in good form so don’t miss out!

5.00 Ascot

Reaching High will need to prove his stamina for the trip here but it’s unlikely he would be lining up if connections weren’t confident. He had the option of the Copper Horse Handicap over shorter but his profile suggests the trip will be fine.

He bolted up in a Racing League handicap last summer and certainly wasn’t stopping at the end of the 1m6f trip that day. The son of Sea The Stars ran a cracker to finish second at Leopardstown on seasonal debut and should improve significantly for that.

6.10 Ascot

Charlus won three times on the Flat for Jean-Claude Rouget and also finished second in a Listed contest. He made a winning start to life with Willie Mullins, when taking a Naas maiden hurdle in January. The four-year-old struggled in the Triumph Hurdle after that but that’s not a concern.

It’s hard to know what to make of his mark and we will learn plenty here. Stamina shouldn’t be an issue, having won over hurdles, and it would be dangerous to rule him out. Mullins has a good record at Royal Ascot in recent years so a winner or two could be on the cards.
